Katie Thurston Opens Up About Stage 4 Breast Cancer Diagnosis: ‘It Isn’t Curable’

Bachelor Nation fans first met Katie Thurston on Season 25 of “The Bachelor” and she returned to our screens for Season 17 of “The Bachelorette.”
Katie has been keeping fans updated with her life on social media and revealed earlier this year that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She has been keeping followers updated about her diagnosis online and sharing her treatment journey.
Last month, Katie revealed the unfortunate news that her breast cancer has spread to her liver and is now at stage 4.
Now, she has taken to her Instagram Story to open up more about her diagnosis and new treatment plan.
In explaining more about her diagnosis, Katie said, “I have stage 4 breast cancer, which is considered terminal because it isn’t curable — but that doesn’t mean I’m dying right now. With today’s treatments, many people live for years, even decades, while managing it like a chronic illness. It’s serious, but it’s not the end.”
The Bachelor Nation star also explained more about what it means to have metastatic breast cancer specifically.
She said, “Also you can be stage 4 by definition but have ‘no evidences of disease.’ Think of it as tiny little cancer punks flowing through my body. They are there forever. But they haven’t been able to recruit an army or even a little gang. So these punks aren’t even big enough to show up on our scans. We know they are around. But they aren’t big enough to do much. Currently shrinking their army.”
Katie has also shared that she is no longer going to be going through chemo and is instead going on a different treatment plan.
One person asked if she’s nervous to start her new medication, and Katie revealed that she’s feeling excited and has already begun her treatment.
She shared, “I’ve been on ⅔ so far and they’ve been manageable. Sleepy and sometimes irritable with the occasional night time hot flashes. However, yes this final medication makes me nervous. I was told to take it in the AM so that I can monitor for side effects. I’ve heard AMAZING results from those who are on Kisqali so I’m also excited to get going!”
