Trista & Ryan Sutter Reveal the Real Secret to Staying in Love 23 Years After ‘Bachelorette’
Spilling the tea.
Trista and Ryan Sutter found love and got engaged on the very first season of “The Bachelorette.” Since then, the Bachelor Nation couple has gotten married and had two children: Max and Blakesley.
Trista and Ryan love to keep fans updated with their lives on social media and celebrated their 22nd anniversary last year.
Now, the fan favorite couple is opening up and revealing the real secret to staying in love 23 years after “The Bachelorette.”
The two recently made the cover of People magazine and shared how they’ve kept their marriage strong over all these years. Trista stated that one of their secrets is they decided to be truly committed to the relationship from the beginning.
“I did see us lasting forever, or at least I hoped,” she said. “I was watching TV when the casting director for ‘The Bachelor ‘was on and said there’s going to be this new reality dating show — you get to travel and meet new people. My ears perked up! I was in a rut… I wasn’t meeting a lot of guys and figured, 'What the heck?' I was actually hopeful that I’d find someone like Ryan."
Trista went on, describing what drew her to Ryan and why she ultimately decided to give him the final rose.
"He wrote me poetry. He was a professional athlete, and I love athleticism. His eyes. He made me laugh. He made me feel safe," she shared. "It just felt right. We had so much chemistry, and I could see him fitting into my life and him fitting into mine and us creating a life of our own together."
Ryan chimed in and expressed similar sentiments, as well as their marriage philosophy.
"I always said I'd marry her [the day she chose me]… I didn’t have any doubts,” he said. “We have the philosophy of there’s nothing that’s going to break us up. We certainly have our moments of disagreement, but there’s never any thought of ‘I’m leaving.’ It’s always like, ‘I’m going to take a break where I’m going to be a little bit more reserved and think about things and take longer walks’… But we always know that we’re going to come back together and figure it out. We know the grass isn’t greener on the other side. Your lawn is greenest where you water it."
Trista also added, “We’re like every married couple. We have the things that drive each other crazy, but it’s silly stuff… We try not to take life so seriously. We have fun, laugh and joke around a lot. We’re very sarcastic. We also believe in setting yourself up for success, in the value of education and putting in effort and working hard and being grateful for what you have."
We love Trista and Ryan’s love, and we’re so happy we’ve been able to watch their relationship continue to unfold over the years. Cheers to this great couple!
