Colton Underwood Reacts to Homophobic Parenting Backlash and Reveals He Wants 2 More Kids
Speaking out.
Bachelor Nation first met Colton Underwood on Season 14 of "The Bachelorette" and again on Season 5 of "Bachelor in Paradise" before he was named the Season 23 Bachelor.
After his time on the Bachelor Nation shows, Colton came out as gay and married his now-husband Jordan Brown in May 2023. The couple welcomed their son Bishop in September 2024.
Now, the former Bachelor has released a new memoir, "DEAR BISHOP: A Letter To My Son."
In the memoir, Colton opens up about his coming-out journey, road to fatherhood, online hate, and his desire to have more children.
In the audiobook, he shares that when he posts photos with his husband and son on social media, the comments are often filled with hate from people who “don't agree with same-sex couples having families.”
Colton says he hopes to “serve as a bridge” and be an example for others so more people can become accepting of all different kinds of families.
He also shared that he tries his best to “ignore” the aggressive hate and “let it go.”
The Bachelor Nation star said, “Our son has two loving parents. And two parents that are doing everything in our power to take care of him, to raise him, to give him a great life.”
While being a dad is “the purest love and joy and just happiness that I've ever experienced in my life,” Colton admitted he “didn’t know it was possible” for him after coming out as gay.
In the memoir, he also reflected on his first date with his husband and their shared dream of becoming dads. It was in that moment that Colton realized, “We can really do this.”
And while there is a lot of “thought, intention, and financial barriers” that go into having children as a same-sex couple, Colton shared, “We for sure want another baby, if not two more.”
We’re so happy to see Colton loving fatherhood and sharing his journey in hopes of helping others feel less alone.
