Jonathon Johnson Breaks Down in Tears After Shoulder Injury Derails Ironman Training
Sending love.
Bachelor Nation got to know Jonathon Johnson on Season 21 of "The Bachelorette" and Season 10 of "Bachelor in Paradise."
Last month, Jonathon co-hosted an episode of "Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour," where he opened up about training for an Ironman race.
If you aren’t familiar, an Ironman race is, according to its official website, “a grueling, long-distance multisport event consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon run,” where participants must complete all three disciplines consecutively, without stopping, in under 17 hours.
Jonathon has been training for his upcoming Ironman attempt for the past six months and recently took to Instagram to share a devastating setback.
Alongside a carousel of photos from his recovery, the Bachelor Nation star wrote, “I’ve gotten hurt many times in my life but never once have I cried. Last Friday was the first time in my life that an injury brought me to tears. And no, it wasn’t because it hurt. It was because I have never, in my 29 years of life, wanted something so bad that was potentially taken away from me due to injury. I have trained night and day for the last 6 months for my first @ironmanamericas race.”
Jonathon then detailed what happened, writing that he dislocated his shoulder “because of the mistakes of someone else, who pushed me to the edge. I had never felt so defeated.”
Instead of wallowing, Jonathon shared that he has been focused on recovery—resting, cycling, and slowly easing back into training.
He ended his post saying, “We are now exactly 2 weeks out from the race and 1 week post shoulder dislocation. I’m not gonna lie, things look a little shaky with my shoulder but we don’t give up. All I’m trying to say is, it’s easy to find reasons TO give up, but what isn’t easy, is getting up to keep going even when you have every reason NOT TO! ❤️ keep fighting!”
We’re rooting for Jonathon in his recovery and in his upcoming race. Sending all our love and good luck!
