Dotun Olubeko Reveals 'Scary' Health Issues and How Charity Lawson Supported Him Through 'Horrible' Times
Getting vulnerable.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko fall in love and get engaged on Season 20 of "The Bachelorette."
Since their time on the show, the two have been enjoying time with family and friends and are living together in New York City.
The couple loves keeping fans updated on their lives online and is currently planning their wedding.
This week, they stopped by the “Two Be Continued” podcast, where Dotun opened up for the first time about ongoing health issues.
He shared that he had already been struggling with his health before going on “The Bachelorette.”
Dotun said, “I came into that show already with some health issues. The main thing for me was chronic lower back pain. I have a really bad lower back. I’ve had it for eight years now and I tried to manage it as best as I could up until the show and I tried to be strong. I think that year after filming just really ran me down.”
He explained that all the traveling and continuing to work full time while managing the post-show excitement took a major toll on his body.
Dotun shared, “I tried to do it all and take it all in and be this supportive guy and it just took a toll on me. So this past year, I even quit my job at the end of last year and kept it to myself because I knew I had to go on this personal journey to find healing and get better. It’s been a really, really good year for that. The timing is really good because progress is being made.”
And it wasn’t just his lower back that was being impacted.
Dotun said, “It was really rough and my health was horrible. I get my bloodwork done all the time and it was scary. There were moments where I was like, if I saw these biomarkers, I’d be like this person is not alive. And you know how it goes, then it snowballs and it becomes both physical and mental. It’s been a year now of figuring out where my priorities lie and focusing on healing.”
The Bachelor Nation star shared that his fiancée, Charity, “has been there to support me through that journey and has been very understanding.”
Charity also commented on Dotun's post about the podcast saying, "Proud of you, Dotun! So much that you all don't see about our lives, this being a big one!"
We’re so glad Dotun is on the path to healing and taking better care of himself. We know that him opening up about this will help others going through something similar.
Sending love and healing vibes his way!
