Jonathon Johnson Finishes First Ironman & Reflects on Transformation: ‘I Have a Screw Loose’
Going the distance.
Bachelor Nation got to know Jonathon Johnson on Season 21 of "The Bachelorette" and Season 10 of "Bachelor in Paradise."
The other month, Jonathon co-hosted an episode of "Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour," where he opened up about training for an Ironman race.
If you aren’t familiar, an Ironman race is, according to its official website, “a grueling, long-distance multisport event consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon run,” where participants must complete all three disciplines consecutively, without stopping, in under 17 hours.
The Bachelor Nation star has been training for the past six months and last month shared about a devastating setback when he dislocated his shoulder.
Now, after working through his injury, Jonathon has taken to social media to reveal that he officially finished his first Ironman and reflected on the transformative experience.
Alongside photos from his race, he wrote, “My first Ironman 70.3 in the books! 6 months ago I signed up for this not because I have a screw loose but because I needed a change. I was bored of the gym, I was bored of my routine, and I knew I needed to challenge myself.”
Jonathon expressed that while training, he didn’t realize other elements of his life would also change.
“My career got better, my love life got better, and my life just felt more fulfilling,” he reflected. “I don’t know if it was the race itself or finally break out of the comfort zone of that routine I’d previously built, but what I do know is that race and this training brought a new sense of life to me that you can’t buy.”
The Bachelor Nation star shared his gratitude for those who have supported him on his journey and encouraged those who feel “lost in their routine” to challenge themselves to become better than they were before.
People filled the comments with love and congratulations, such as Jonathon’s girlfriend Morgan Willett, who wrote, “So unbelievably proud. Still not over the fact you are a literal super human” Fellow Bachelor Nation star Joan Vassos also added, “Congrats!!! What a huge accomplishment. So proud of you. 🏃🎖️” Leslie Fhima chimed in, “So impressed Jonathon!! So amazing!👏🙌❤️”
Congratulations, Jonathon! We couldn’t agree more with all the love, and we are so proud of all his hard work. What an amazing accomplishment!
