Krystal Nielson Reflects on How Her Traumatic Birth Experience Might Have Been Avoided

Bachelor Nation star Krystal Nielson Bowles found love off-screen with her husband Miles Bowles, and the two welcomed their daughter Andara Rose in 2021.
Earlier last year, the couple shared they were expecting their second child — a baby boy. And in November, Krystal and Miles announced baby Rowan had finally arrived after some unexpected complications during birth.
Krystal later told her birth story for the first time and stated it was “the most traumatic experience” she’s ever endured. She revealed she needed an emergency C-section and surgery to repair her uterus, which had ruptured, leading doctors to strongly advise her against having any more children.
Now, the Bachelor Nation star is reflecting on that day and sharing how she thinks it possibly could’ve been avoided.
In a new video online, Krystal opened up about being “terrified of getting a C-section” and told her husband and midwife she didn’t want one.
“When things started going wrong and my son wasn’t descending, no one called in a doctor to assess what was going on. Because I’m the one who made it clear: no C-section,” she shared. “After three and a half hours of pushing, my uterus ruptured. From there, my son was taken straight to the NICU. It was two days before I got to meet him.”
Krystal admitted that she feels like her uterine rupture, “could have been avoided had I not been so afraid of a C-section.”
She said, “Recovery was manageable, and my scar doesn’t really bother me at all. Honestly, I barely think about it. But what I do think about is that I wish I would have walked into that birth with a more open and flexible plan instead of a hard ‘no.’ I just wish I had known sooner that it wasn’t something I needed to be afraid about.”
However, Krystal also stated that while her son was in the NICU, her marriage got stronger and loved ones showed up “in ways I’ll never forget.”
“What felt like the worst moment of my life became the one that built us,” she reflected.
