Bailey Brown Gets Candid About Doctors Dismissing Her Chronic Pain: 'The Worst Feeling'

Bachelor Nation got to know Bailey Taylor Brown on Season 29 of “The Bachelor” and again on Season 10 of “Bachelor in Paradise,” where she found love with Jeremy Simon.
Since then, the two have been enjoying traveling and spending time together, as well as keeping followers updated with their lives online.
This week while on a podcast, Bailey opened up about struggling with chronic pain and her candid experience of being dismissed by doctors.
Bailey shared that for the past seven years, she has been seeing “rheumatologists and functional health doctors” to better understand an “early autoimmune diagnosis” she received back in 2019.
She recalled, “Since then, it’s been countless appointments where I’m left with no guidance and years of chronic pain, to the point where the past couple of years I put off seeing a rheumatologist because of the lack of more clear answers. This year, I took the time to finally go to the appointments I’ve been putting off and I was truly met with such a horrific experience and I realized how often women are told they look healthy and invalidated on their pain.”
Bailey went on to describe the upsetting experience with her doctor at the appointment.
“My doctor was very dismissive of my pain,” she shared, “He was like, ‘You look healthy. I don’t think anything’s wrong with you.' Even though I’ve obviously had many markers in the past that shared that there’s something going on that we need to dig deeper [into]… I felt so [dismissed] after our appointment, I literally remember I just bawled my eyes out. I called my partner, I called my mom, I was just like, ‘This is the worst feeling ever having someone make you feel like you’re crazy for your pain.'”
During the podcast, Bailey spoke with two female doctors, and the Bachelor Nation star touched on how refreshing it felt to talk with them.
She expressed, “It was such a relief sitting down with doctors that care about their patients’ well-being. It’s empowered me to not just go to the first referral and take control of my health journey and to advocate for myself.”
