Bachelor Nation fans first met Cam Ayala on Season 15 of “The Bachelorette,” and he later appeared on Season 6 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”

Since his time on the shows, Cam has continued to keep fans updated on his life via social media, where he has been extremely open about his journey with lymphedema, both as a patient and an advocate.

In 2022, Cam shared on Instagram that his condition had progressed to the point where one of his legs needed to be amputated. Since then, he has continued documenting his journey as an amputee and his recovery process on social media.

Last month, Cam’s friend Christopher Wood took to social media to share an update on the Bachelor Nation star’s health after being hospitalized due to an unexpected infection in his bones.

Now, Cam has posted a new update on Instagram regarding his health and recovery process. 

He shared behind-the-scenes videos of when the infection started and wrote, “How it started May 15th Infection onset” over clips of him being taken to the hospital. Cam then showed himself doing “inpatient rehabilitation” as well as many “friends & family showing up” while he was in the hospital. 

Next to the video, Cam expressed, “This morning as I was reflecting on this past month from the recovery of the ‘routine outpatient procedure’ which then led to an unexpected infection and a 3.5 week stay at Memorial Hermann TIRR Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital, I’ve realized these things.” 

The Bachelor Nation star went on to list the three main takeaways he learned from the experience, starting with how important his “tribe” is. 

“Your TRIBE is everything! From friends, family, church community, and my medical care team - I’m beyond blessed! My appreciation to all of the visitors, text messages, care packages, DM’s, FaceTimes, and prayers… y’all carried me through this season! 🫂,” he shared. 

Cam also touched on how his faith had grown throughout this process and, “How you choose to respond to adversity is completely up to YOU!” He explained, “My Neuro-Therapist really helped me understand the elements of my health and relationships that are within my control, and the ones that aren’t.”

He then reflected, “The lyrics from @redclaystrays new song 🎶’Grateful’ couldn’t be more of a perfect anthem for how I feel in this season of recovery, healing, and preparation for next surgery ahead. A MILLION THANK-YOU’s to the team.”
