Bachelor Nation first got to know Jason Tartick on Season 14 of “The Bachelorette.”

Since his time on the show, Jason found love off-screen and hard-launched his relationship last year with Wags & Walks Nashville founder and executive director Kathryn Hurley.

The two have been going strong ever since and recently traveled to Europe, documenting their adventures online. Last week, Jason revealed on social media that he and Kathryn officially got engaged while in Lake Como, Italy!

Now, on his podcast “Trading Secrets,” the couple is sharing more details about their engagement and how Jason caught Kathryn completely by surprise.

Jason revealed that he originally thought they would get engaged “this summer or fall,” and Kathryn agreed, which is why she never suspected it would happen sooner. “It was probably like a month before that I decided, ‘I’m doing this. This is the time. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip,’” Jason recalled.

Before leaving for Europe, he found an excuse to go to New York for work and, while there, purchased a custom engagement ring. Jason also FaceTimed Kathryn’s dad, and discussed how he snuck the ring into Europe without Kathryn finding out.

Jason recalled being very protective of his weekender bag while abroad because it held the ring, which made Kathryn suspicious. The couple had also planned a photo shoot and boat ride while in Lake Como, so Jason had to keep her distracted to avoid giving away that a proposal was coming.

He explained that he removed the ring from its box and kept it in his pocket so Kathryn wouldn’t notice it. He then took silhouette photos of her facing the other direction before getting down on one knee.

“I didn’t look at the ring for so long. I just kept holding your face and wanting to take in the moment,” Kathryn recalled, confirming that she was completely surprised. “I didn’t want the moment to end.”

The engaged couple also discussed having kids, and Kathryn admitted that it wasn’t something she envisioned for herself before meeting Jason.

“I want kids with you,” she said. “I was never the type of woman who was like, ‘I was born to be a mother’ ...I never felt that way. I always knew I would be a good mom, I’ll take care of a child. But I didn’t think about it much when I was younger.”

“I met you and I said I didn’t want kids. I think that shows the importance of a partner in your life,” she continued. “[Now], I want your babies…We will have kids, all things willing. But yeah, I felt like I met the love of my life and wanted to have a partner that I could parent well with. And seeing a little scraggly little kid running around? Hell yeah, I’ll do that with you.”

The two agreed they would like to have a couple of children, but no more than two.
