Joe Amabile Opens Up About Struggling with Speech Difficulties After Brain Surgery: ‘About 90% Back’

Bachelor Nation saw fan-favorite couple Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt fall in love and get engaged on Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.” The couple tied the knot in 2023.
Last month, Joe shared the news that they discovered an “early-stage brain tumor” and he needed brain surgery.
Earlier this month, the Bachelor Nation star revealed the doctors were able to successfully remove the entire tumor during his surgery.
He has since been diagnosed with a very low-grade astrocytoma and revealed he will be on treatment for life.
Joe and Serena have been keeping followers updated on his recovery journey on social media.
And recently, Joe chatted with “Good Morning America” about his diagnosis and struggles he’s facing while recovering three weeks later.
In his interview, he revealed that he still has difficulties with his speech since his surgery and is “about 90% back.”
“I still struggle a little bit,” he said. “I could think of what to say, but I would have a hard time vocalizing it. And I would say I’m about 90% back.”
The Bachelor Nation star also revealed that his doctor believes if it weren’t for the full-body MRI screening that detected the brain tumor early, the outcome could have been very different.
“According to my doctor, I wouldn’t probably know about this until I eventually had a seizure,” he stated.
Joe then opened up about why he's been documenting his experience on social media.
“I think being able to share so other people can relate, and people who are going through it, I think is, it's super important,” he said.
Serena also chimed in during the interview to express what this experience has been like. “Unexpected challenges are going to be thrown your way and I feel like it has made me feel very grateful for the partner that I chose,” she shared.
