Kaitlyn Bristowe Defends Hannah Brown for Having Sex on 'The Bachelorette'
We knew from the beginning that Hannah Brown has had sex, and guess what? Jesus still loves her. So do many Bachelor Nation alumni and fans alike.
Previews throughout the season showed Hannah asserting to a mystery man—later revealed to be Luke P.—that she’s had sex whether he likes it or not (he doesn’t). In the trailer after “The Bachelorette” episode in the Netherlands, Hannah told Luke she “f—ked in a windmill” and they even “did it a second time.” This mysterious windmill man turned out to be Peter and it all went down during their Fantasy Suite date.
Hannah received both praise and backlash following the comment about having sex on the show. Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe immediately jumped to her defense because if there’s anyone who knows what Hannah is going through, it’s Kaitlyn. The 34-year-old had sex with Nick Viall during the season and never heard the end of it.

On July 2, one day after Episode 7, Kaitlyn took to Twitter and talked about the current Bachelorette’s right to have sex and to make her own decisions. One Twitter user wrote to Kaitlyn, “Girl have you looked at Hannah’s social media and bachelorettes social media? Women are coming after her and slut shaming her like they did to you. It’s so upsetting to see.”
Kaitlyn replied, “Women can have sex if they choose, and women can wait till marriage if they choose. Point is, ITS THEIR CHOICE. When you’re making a life altering decision to find a life partner, intimacy can be important. Why is that so hard to understand?”

Another person tweeted at Kaitlyn asking if we should “be supporting Hannah, when we know she’s making a regretful decision.” This person did not clarify if this “regretful decision” referred to Hannah’s having sex or keeping Luke around, but Kaitlyn nonetheless advocated on Hannah’s behalf.
“Of course we should. Have you ever done something you regret, and needed support? Or would you be fine with everyone coming after you, when you’re probably already being hard on yourself,” she wrote. “Sometimes regrets are life lessons, which result in self compassion and growth.”
Fans thanked Kaitlyn and cheered her on after Hannah’s Fantasy Suite episode where she called out Luke for criticizing her for having sex. “I genuinely love how the times have changed,” Kaitlyn tweeted on July 15.
In June, Hannah also confronted criticism about her romantic journey in a lengthy Instagram post that discussed religion and her disappointment in the negativity surrounding some choices she’s made.
“I refuse to not stand in the sun. I refuse to feel shame. I refuse to believe the lies and evil that flood my comments,” she penned.

Hannah explained she and some of the men received a “chilling” amount of hate, and she finds that extremely upsetting. She even went so far as to call herself “a hot mess on a stick” and an “imperfect human,” but that doesn’t make the hurtful comments about her any easier to digest.
“I’ve realized that a lot of the things that Satan uses to hurt me, come in the form of many of your comments— he uses a grain of truth to steer to evil lies. ‘You’re not enough, you’re dirty, you’re dumb, you’re immature, you’re not worthy...’. It’s upsetting to get messages from Christians telling me I give Christians a bad name,” she wrote.
At least Bachelor Nation now knows the identity behind the “we” in that windmill phrase.
