On July 8, the same day as the Hometown Dates episode, Jed posted a photo of his family on Instagram asking that people stop sending negative comments his way. He wrote, “Hi y’all. Several of you have reached out with messages and questions. Please know I’m not able to answer right now, but as soon as I’m able to, I will.”

Jed’s note continued, “Until then, I ask that you please understand how much the actions being taken towards myself, my family, the men on the show, and above all, Hannah, are affecting all of our mental and physical health. It goes beyond what is said online. Threatening letters and phone calls have been sent to our homes. My parents and sister are being verbally attacked in public. I beg you to remember what seems like a harmless action is damaging to real people.”

The Nashville-based musician thanked people who have reached out to him and then said he would “speak openly” once he was finally able to.

It all goes back to June 18 when People published an article where his alleged girlfriend Haley Stevens opened up about their relationship. She told the magazine that she and Jed “spent the night together before he headed for L.A.” Jed allegedly told Haley he would only do the show “for my music.” That echoed what he told Hannah on their first one-on-one date in Boston. Jed admitted he initially came on “The Bachelorette” due to its “huge platform.”

Haley told a number of outlets that she went public with the claims because she “wanted to be in control of what people said." They apparently have not spoken since he left for Los Angeles to film.

Jed’s music career became the elephant in the room during his hometown date with Hannah. Jed’s mom Gina, for instance, told Hannah, “It’s his heart and his soul. He couldn’t go to work full time and do music. His path is different.”

His sister Lily shared similar worries. She said to the Bachelorette, “Making music makes him so happy. Him falling in love with you…I’m not sure that’s a good thing.”

His hometown dates caused quite the stir on social media. Former “The Bachelor” and “Bachelor in Paradise” contestant Tia Booth tweeted, “JED’S FAMILY KNOWS THE TRUTH BUT THEY CAN’T SAY IT. Look at their faces!!”

These various discussions with Jed’s family sowed some doubt and concerns into Hannah’s head. She tearfully explained that she left his home feeling confused and scared. “My fear is that our relationship or his music will suffer,” she said.

Hannah spoke up a bit on July 8 as well. She shared photos from her four hometown dates as well as a selfie with her family. She thanked all of them for “opening your home, and supporting your son and me in opening our hearts to each other.”  She also wrote, “Our families didn’t sign up for this. We are the ones who said yes to the vulnerable opportunity to find love this way. But thank you to the people who loved us first, and continue to support us on this journey of love, heart break, and life lessons!”
