Dean Unglert Opens Up About Being Sober During 'Bachelor in Paradise' Filming
Dean Unglert walked into Season 6 of “Bachelor in Paradise” with a whole new mindset.
On his podcast “Help! I Suck at Dating” that he hosts with show alums Vanessa Grimaldi and Jared Haibon, Dean opened up about his stint on “Paradise” and what made this year different.
He explained that, first and foremost, he “went on the show with zero intention to leave the show in a relationship.” The 28-year-old emphasized that he was “fighting” the powers that be to meet a significant other in Mexico. Although he neither confirmed nor denied if he has a girlfriend, he did admit that he finally believed “not all Bachelor relationships are fake.”
His goals for “Paradise” seemingly went hand-in-hand with the choice not to drink at all. The Colorado native also shared that he stayed “completely sober” his entire time on “Paradise." He called it “challenging” because “You get bored a lot. All you want to do is drink. Your friends are drinking and all you want to do is join them.”
He added, “For the first time, I don’t need to worry about being drunk and stupid on camera. I did say stupid things on camera, but I didn’t get drunk and say stupid things on camera.”
Dean’s seen his fair share of Bachelor Nation drama over the years. He made it to the final four on Rachel Lindsay’s season of “The Bachelorette,” appeared on Season 4 of “Paradise,” and also participated in “The Bachelor Winter Games.” However, he said this was his “best season” yet thanks to his sobriety.
After leaving “Paradise,” Dean then hopped across the Atlantic and traveled all over Europe for just over two weeks. He swam in Greece’s crystal clear blue waters (did he see a windmill?), ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, traversed the Venice canals, and hiked up the Dolomites in Italy. Dean’s got everyone beat when it comes to summer plans and we can’t wait to see his “Paradise” transformation.
