Becca Kufrin Writes Poignant Message on 10-Year Anniversary of Her Father's Death
Becca Kufrin is remembering her late father in a poignant and moving way.
The Season 14 Bachelorette wrote a long post on Instagram honoring her father Steven Kufrin and explaining how she’s coping. Becca added a photo of her father standing by a lake and looking out over the water with binoculars.
She began the caption, “It’s been a decade without my Dad’s laughter, kisses and peanut butter cookies, and his missing presence has hit me harder than it ever has. I’m still learning that time doesn’t always make the grieving process easier, it just comes in different forms that I have to learn to adapt to.”
Becca reminded anyone who has ever lost a loved one that they are “not alone” and it’s “something that every single one of us will experience in this lifetime.”
Her note went on, “But also know that you are stronger than you think, that it’s okay to cry and let the ugly emotions out, and it’s necessary to lean on others for support. But also remember that you will find glimpses of happy again.”

The 29-year-old then wrote a tribute to her dad and talked about the little things in life that remind her of him every day. “To my dad: I love you, I still admire you and your gentle strength you had for your girls,” she said. “I never see a wildflower without thinking of you, or eat a carrot without remember the times when you’d let us pull them out of the garden. I can’t eat soup from a restaurant without envisioning you asking the server for the recipe, or eat fish without remembering the sound of the pan as you’d fry it up.”
Becca called her father her “first great love” and that her fiancée Garrett Yrigoyen “reminds me of you.”
“I think you’d love him too,” she wrote of Garrett.
Becca’s beautiful post about her dad wasn’t her only tribute of the day. She also uploaded a series of videos to her Instagram Story where she tearfully talked about the day and how it’s been “a rough one so far.” She’s honoring his life and legacy by showing pictures of Steven to her dog Minno so “she knows what he was like.”
The Minnesota native said she wanted to post videos on this day in particular because she’s received messages over the years asking how to “get through the loss of a parent or deal with somebody who has an illness.”
Although Becca doesn’t “have any advice,” she shared one habit that works well for her.
“One trick that works for me is to just find moments to remember that loved one,” she said. “For instance, today me and Minno have been making my dad’s famous spaghetti and we’ve been playing the blues because that was his favorite music. We’re just going to take it easy and live in these hard moments, because that’s life and it’s not always easy.”

She concluded her video, “I want anyone out there who is dealing with a parent who is sick or lost someone, you’re not alone. It might not get easier, but you learn to cope and take it day by day.”
Steve passed away on September 20, 2009, after batting brain cancer. He was lovingly known as “Bucky” or “Buckshot” and worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for many years.
Our thoughts go out to Becca and her family today.
