Why Joe Amabile Bought a Taxidermy Badger for Kendall Long
Love comes in all shapes and sizes — taxidermy animals included.
Fans may recall that Kendall Long from Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of “The Bachelor” dabbles in taxidermy. Kendall joined Rachel Lindsay, Joe Amabile, Tayshia Adams, Katie Morton, Eric Bigger and Bryan Abasolo for a special Friendsgiving episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour,” and the subject of said hobby arose.
Joe joked, “We have so many dead animals in our house.”
Kendall explained why she likes taxidermy and shared a story about one animal that holds a special place in her heart. “I like to see them as the art of nature preserved. We have many specimens,” she said. Kendall divulged that Joe “contributed to the collection” of animals in their apartment.

She elaborated, “He got me a badger that we named Beaver. We were at this taxidermy shop in Texas and I’ve always wanted a badger for my collection, and Joe is like, ‘How much for the beaver?’ The taxidermist and I were like, ‘It’s actually a badger.’”
Hence, “It’s the badger named Beaver.”
The 28-year-old opened up about her passion for the activity in an interview with Yahoo in March. Kendall told the website that although she collects these animals, she’s “actually a pescatarian, almost a vegetarian.”
She also said she feels like she’s “collecting sculptures or paintings. It’s the exact same thing.”
Kendall brought one of the preserved animals, a duckling named Ping, along for the ride while filming “The Bachelor.” Ping traveled all over the world with her, including to Paris, Peru, and Italy.

The “Bachelor in Paradise” alumna explained the reasoning behind her collection, and it has nothing to do “with the morbid side of it.” She told Yahoo, “It’s more so life. I mean, it’s sad that things have to die, but everything dies. And I believe that when something does die, its body is no longer a part of what it is. The body is more like the shell. And it’s a beautiful shell you can save.”
