The youngest son of Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried turned 1 on Sunday. The birthday boy’s parents wrote sweet tributes to Zander on social media and shared a slideshow of photos of their son from the past year.

Desiree uploaded a slideshow of cute photos of Zander with all members of the family. She captioned it, “Feels like just yesterday Zander was born but also don’t remember nor could imagine our family without him! He has so much joy in his sweet little soul and that smile alone makes everyone who meets him feel so special and loved. Happy Birthday baby boy! We love you so much.”

In July, Desiree wrote all about Zander’s home birth on her blog and shared details all about the “extraordinary day.”

The Season 9 Bachelorette explained that Zander’s due date was January 13, so she woke up on January 12 “exhausted from a toddler wanting to wake up early and a full agenda for Desiree Hartsock Bridal.” She was also in the midst of batting a cold and pink eye, so she felt “anxious about being sick and did NOT want this baby to come while I wasn’t healthy and strong.”

Desiree admitted she “didn’t feel as prepared” during her pregnancy because of “a very busy work and travel schedule and managing a toddler at the same time.” The day of the 12th, she took her son Asher out on a walk, but ended up walking a huge hill she doesn’t normally take. She believes this change in route “triggered baby to start making his way home.”

That night, Desiree woke up feeling contractions. Her midwife and doula arrived an hour later, helping her breathe through the contractions and keeping her calm. She wrote that she listened to her Christian playlist to “distract my mind from everything else around me.”

She shared, “By the fourth hour I was exhausted and not sure how much longer I had. The contractions were like every minute and with each one I felt so present, and so aware- of the discomfort and the time passing by. The intention and presence I had with each contraction is what helped me get through each one though so I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Desiree described feeling “present” and “in tuned” with Zander during the entire birthing process. In one particularly spiritual moment, she wrote, “Midway through the last hour someone had opened the blinds and Chris made sure I opened my eyes just enough to see the most miraculous, firey pink and orange sunrise I had ever seen. It was like the moment Simba is lifted up on the rock and the song begins. It felt too surreal for it to be real life.”

Finally, she gave birth to “the most beautiful squirmy boy,” Zander. She sobbed tears “of relief, of joy, of love” and “felt so much gratitude” when holding him for the first time.

“It was a magical day,” she wrote.
