Experience Algarve, Portugal, Like Colton Underwood on 'The Bachelor'
Nestled at the bottom tip of Portugal along the Atlantic Ocean lies the spectacular Region of Algarve. Known for its beaches, wildlife, fresh seafood, wineries, and warm weather, Algarve remains a hidden treasure for many travelers. One aspect hiding in plain sight, however, is the love for love here!
While many people initially think of Lisbon or Porto at first mention of Portugal, it’s necessary to add the Region of Algarve to that list. Colton Underwood traveled to this lesser-known gem on Season 23 of “The Bachelor” for his Fantasy Suite dates, and while fence jumping is likely not a common practice condoned by locals, there are plenty of ways to experience Algarve much like the Bachelor did on his journey to find his forever.
Arrival
Once in Algarve, there are lots of beautiful options for lodging. If you love a beautiful resort, may we suggest the Robinson Club Quinta Da Ria, where the all-inclusive options cover everything you could ever need for a romantic getaway.
One-on-one date: Love you to the ends of the earth
With so much natural beauty all around, take your loved one a helicopter ride to see Algarve from a whole new vantage point. Some companies, such as HTA Helicopteros, offer tours of the region that provide a bird’s-eye view of the unmatched scenery. The grand experience continues when they fly you to a drop point where you can enjoy the views over a picnic and champagne toast.
If you’re up for an adventure, venture to Cape St. Vincent (Cabo de São Vicente) in Sagres, the southernmost tip of Portugal. Cape St. Vincent dates back centuries, and while many people consider it to be a very spiritual and mythical place to visit, we love it for its picturesque views and breathtaking landscape. Some people even call it “the end of the world” due to its location, but don’t let the name stop you from going. This is just the beginning of your romantic journey in Algarve!
One-on-one date: Old town roads
Small medieval villages dot Algarve, a trait that makes many areas in Europe so special. For a quick day trip, grab a rental car and take a ride out to Tavira, a quaint town encircled by waterways. Follow Colton’s lead and enjoy a walk around the main parts of town, where you can pick up authentic souvenirs for yourself and loved ones.
Sweet company already accounted for, you can succumb to those sugar cravings by splitting (or getting your own!) the traditional regional dessert, Folhado de Tavira. If that gives you another kick of energy, see more of the city’s history by visiting the Castle of Tavira. The castle dates back to the 12th century and provides the perfect backdrop for falling in love.
Algarve is filled with beautiful landscapes, from beaches and mountains to castles and caves.
We definitely suggest you book a trip here — you might even get a Fantasy Suite of your own!
