Experience Khao Lak, Thailand, Like Colton Underwood on 'The Bachelor'
Several Bachelors and Bachelorettes made stops in Thailand amid their respective journeys for love. Becca Kufrin traveled to Chiang Mai on Season 14 of “The Bachelorette,” Sean Lowe to Chiang Rai on Season 17 of “The Bachelor,” JoJo Fletcher to Phuket on Season 12 of “The Bachelorette,” Ashley (Hebert) Rosenbaum to Chiang Mai and Phuket on Season 7 of “The Bachelorette,” and, in Season 23, Colton Underwood to Khao Lak.
The beauty of a country like Thailand is that you can return here for numerous vacations and still experience a special trip each time. You can take your pick between the coast and the sea, and in some instances, get your fill of both in one city.
If you want a romantic getaway that combines soothing ocean waves, lush hillsides, and a bustling nightlife, here’s how you can have the journey of a lifetime in Khao Lak, just like Colton.
Arrival
When in Khao Lak, we highly recommended you stay somewhere close to the beach so you can take full advantage of the flawless ocean views. Colton and the ladies stayed at Robinson Club Khao Lak, a large resort with five bars, four restaurants, spa services, sporting options, and more. Sunbathe by the pool or walk on the beach — either way, your idea of paradise is always within reach. With the sun shining and your love by your side, you won’t need anything else.
One-on-one date: Keep calm and kayak on
When you’re ready to get out and see what the region has to offer, take a relaxed adventure on your one-on-one day together. Much like Colton and his date, you can rent kayaks and paddle out to sea caves and Ko Panyi, the famous “floating island.” Kayaking on the open water together is a great way to build your relationship even more!
Continue your beach day into the evening hours by sipping tropical drinks next to the ocean, which you can do at Memories Beach Bar. Bury your toes in the sand, sit back, relax, and enjoy the nightly fire show or a candlelit dinner.
The team-building skills that you used during your date on the water can come in handy when talking about where you see your relationship going from here.
Group date: I’m a survivor
Colton’s group date on “The Bachelor” involved learning survival techniques and putting the women to the test to assess their new knowledge.
While you could follow suit on your group outing, a more inclusive group date would be hiking on one of Khao Lak’s many trails. National parks fill the Thai city, so lace up those boots and hit the road. You two can conquer any uphill battle that comes your way!
One-on-one date: Just beachy
Another day at the beach won’t do you any harm! If you want more one-on-one time with your love, take a ferry to Koh Phangan and enjoy the romance that comes with it!
The island is paradise in every sense of the word, with cerulean water that laps against the white sand and palm trees surrounding you. Plus, you can hike and scuba dive if those activities call your name.
Relax and recover back at your hotel and hand out a rose to someone who made a special impression on your trip.
