Experience Newport, Rhode Island, Like Hannah Brown on 'The Bachelorette'
Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the country, but its tiny size doesn’t correlate to the amount of natural beauty it offers. The Ocean State is flanked by shoreline and stunning, famous mansions, many of which are located in Newport. Maybe you’ll even have your own “Bachelor” or “Bachelorette” style wedding at one of these grand homes — it’s been done before!
Rhode Island was founded in the 1630s, and its long, fascinating history makes Newport a great destination for couples and travelers who want that romantic small-town feel with access to big cities right at your fingertips. Hannah Brown traveled here on Season 15 of “The Bachelorette,” so here’s your chance to create your own romantic dates just like her.
Arrival
If you visit Newport for a couples getaway, check out Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina, which sits on its own private island in close proximity to downtown Newport.
If you opt to stay here, you and your plus-one or group can sit on Adirondack chairs and stare out at the pink and purple sunset. You can even talk about endless opportunities for you two, just like the expanse in front of your eyes.
Group date: Let’s play some rug-bae
Time to get active in Newport! If you want to spend a day outdoors and see who will compete the hardest for your affection, head to Fort Adams Park to play some rugby. There’s a chance you might even encounter the Newport Rugby Team, which practices at the park. Have some players show you the ropes for this popular game and then engage in some friendly competition. After all, love is worth fighting for.
A trip to Newport wouldn’t be complete without visiting some mansions, including Linden Place. The Classic-style home built in 1810 is one of many stately residences to visit while you’re in town, and you don’t want to miss out on touring a crucial part of Newport’s attractions.
Here’s to hoping your date surprises you with a romantic gesture as big as the houses!
One-on-one date: Catch a piece of my heart
Newport boasts more than 400 miles of coastline, so put on your cutest boating gear and head to the docks at Sakonnet Harbor while you fish for some of Newport’s freshest catches. If your date drops any cute pickup lines on you, don’t be afraid to take the bait.
To keep your day of Newport traditions going, reserve a table for dinner at White Horse Tavern, the oldest such establishment in the country. This tavern, built in 1673, has stood the test of time, and so can you.
Rose ceremony
In addition to Linden Place, add Belcourt Castle to your list of Newport mansions to visit. Roam the grounds and stare in awe at its halls filled with chandeliers and stained-glass windows, inspiring you to discuss your dream home together.
Newport, Rhode Island, is a picturesque getaway worth adding to your travel list. Whether you’re on the rugby field or on the sea, Newport will charm its way straight into your heart.
