This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Matt Grant Answers the Call for Love
London was calling, and 27-year-old Matt Grant answered.
Matt made his big debut on Season 12 of "The Bachelor" as he traded in London for Los Angeles on his quest for love. The season premiered March 17, 2008.
The move was a big “gamble” for Matt, a charming international banker who was captain of the rowing team in college. He also played rugby, as well as other sports. He brought those pastimes with him into the show, where he tested the women's athletic abilities on a rugby group date.
At the beginning of the season, Matt revealed that his father had a stroke when he was younger, and it made him realize how badly he wanted to be a father to take care of a family of his own. With four other siblings, family means everything to him.
A natural competitor, Matt was more than ready to win at love. He walked into Bachelor Mansion with his eye on the prize: finding his happily ever after. He met 25 women the first night and kicked off his “Bachelor” journey.
Over the course of the season, Matt and the ladies traveled all over the world on their dates, from Las Vegas to Barbados. Once Matt narrowed it down to the final two women, he flew with them to England to meet his family. Matt, Shayne Lamas and Chelsea Wanstrath traveled to Barbados for their final dates and the big proposal.
Matt ultimately handed his final rose to Shayne, a 22-year-old actress, over Chelsea. The pair parted ways a few months after the finale. He married Rebecca Loring on December 28, 2017, in England, where he now lives.
