Vanessa Grimaldi Writes Powerful Note About 'Embracing' Cellulite
Vanessa Grimaldi wants to encourage everyone to embrace what they see to be their "imperfections."
The "Bachelor" Season 21 finalist posted a photo of herself on Instagram sunbathing on her balcony and penned a powerful note about body positivity to go with it. She began, "I’m here to tell you to go outside and soak in the sun & that cellulite is N-O-R-M-A-L.☀️"
She told a story about how when she was 20, she "purchased this anti-cellulite cream + tool that had spikes with rounded edges. It claimed it would help diminish the appearance of cellulite."
However, this tool came with unforeseen consequences. "I ended up with massive back pain for months from trying to scrub the back of my thighs and bum," she continued. "I became a contortionist. I remember how painful it was to bend over or to dance. My friend had to massage my back in between songs at a club (legal age is 18 in Quebec)."

Vanessa called the experience "ridiculous," but despite never using the cream and tool again, she "still had insecurities about it." Twelve years later, she's looking at her body with a whole new perspective. She concluded her post, "I’m now 32 and embracing all these beautiful perfections we are told are imperfections. You are all perfect - don’t be 20 year old me and break your back trying to change."
This isn't the first time Vanessa has spoken out about her body and loving it for what it is. On May 5, she posted a video on Instagram of herself trying to button her jeans, writing, "I usually come up with an excuse whenever this happens: I ate too much gluten, it’s the time of the month, I shouldn’t have put my jeans in the dryer, I get bloated after I work out."
She shared, "Appreciate the parts of your body you once made excuses for. Take this time to dance in front of a mirror and admire your body. I used to think perfection doesn’t exist, but it does."

Many other "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" cast members have also spoken out about overcoming insecurities and focusing on the positives.
In January, Becca Tilley wrote in a note, "I had a moment the other day that really changed my perspective on how I view my physical appearance. I was thinking no one has ever impacted me by being beautiful or having a perfect body. It might get my initial attention or even be inspiring, but it’s never been the reason I remembered them."
Ali Fedotowsky-Manno has been especially vocal about this cause in particular. In April, she uploaded a photo of herself and her daughter Molly sitting by the pool and wrote, "Just a quick little reminder that you are beautiful, your body is amazing, and our children are watching. Show them what self love looks like by choosing to love yourself everyday."

In October, she wrote a caption akin to Vanessa's, saying, "I often find myself criticizing my cellulite, the size of my waist and the fat around my tummy, and my nose. Heck, the other day I was beating myself up because my toenail looked yellow after I took my nail polish off. I mean really! The way we talk to ourselves internally it’s just not OK."
She went on, "My point is, our bodies are amazing! And I think if we stop to think about our body parts and appreciate them for their true purpose and function rather than some arbitrary aesthetic that society put on them. Then we’d all be speaking to ourselves in a completely different way."
