This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Kalon McMahon Goes on a 'One-on-None' Date
If Kalon McMahon's time on Season 1 of "Bachelor in Paradise" had to be described in one word, it would be "cringeworthy."
Kalon arrived Week 4, which presented its fair share of difficulties because couples had already formed and connections were beginning to grow. He faced even more of an uphill battle because he couldn't shed his previous bad-boy reputation from his time on Emily Maynard's season of "The Bachelorette," especially when he referred to her daughter Ricki as "baggage."
Though the Texas-based entrepreneur had a brief stint in "Paradise," he made sure to leave his mark on franchise history on his "one-on-none" date, which aired August 25, 2014.
It all began when Kalon showed up on the beach in Tulum, Mexico, one night and not to much fanfare, either.
Michelle Money said of the newest addition, "I don’t even know where to begin with Kalon. I have a daughter and I’ll tell you, the last thing she is, is baggage."
Lacy Faddoul said, "He's not my type of guy."
Kalon introduced himself to the group and sat down next to Michelle and immediately asked her out on a date. She accepted, but questioned why she made that decision.
On the day of the date as Kalon got dressed and ready to go, he said, "Today’s date is probably more about me. Michelle Money, she’s extremely attractive. More than physically, I am drawn to crazy. I find boring, boring. I like a girl that will keep me on my toes. It’s like the stock market: I see it as potential opportunity. Whether I’m going to invest, we’ll see."
Michelle knocked on his door and reneged on her promise to go on a date with him.
She said, "I really appreciate how you approached me with the date card. I knew we had some things we needed to talk about. I’ve been very offended by things that you’ve said and done. You referenced Emily as having baggage because she has a daughter."
Kalon tried justifying his actions, saying what he did was "tasteless" and "water under the bridge," but that didn't sway Michelle.
Kalon said to the camera after Michelle walked away, "Apparently, two years later, everyone still likes to use the b-word. Is a child baggage? It depends who carries it. I’m in an awkward spot. This is the first date card I’ve ever been given and I refuse to squander it."
He walked up to Sarah and Jackie Parr who were sunbathing and called them "sun lizards." He then asked Jackie if she wanted to go "sperlunking," (he meant "spelunking") but she turned him down. A few moments later, Kalon asked Sarah the same questions and she, too, rejected his offer.
Kalon asserted as he left for his "sperlunking" day, "I have this adventure in the palm of my hand, and apparently no one wants to leave their comfort zone here in Paradise to join me. Sure, I can be like every other idiot here and give my date card to someone else. Once again, I’m backing Bachelor history. Welcome to the first one-on-none date."
He arrived at the cave all by his lonesome and rappelled into a cave, joking this was the "perfect place to re-fall in love with myself."
