Why Trevor Holmes Is Learning How to 'Embrace the Bad Times'
Trevor Holmes is taking the good with the bad, and he’s not going to let the latter slow him down.
On Thursday, Trevor posted a photo of himself leaning against a stool and thoughtfully looking off into the distance. He opined in the caption, "It’s funny how while life is happening and you have setbacks, none of it makes sense. But when time passes and you look back it all seems like a perfectly written plan that led you to exactly where you are now. I now embrace the bad times, because I know it’s going to steer me right where I’m supposed to be going."

The "Listen to Your Heart" finalist has been open about dealing with the harder days. In August, he wrote a post on Instagram about how surfing helps him cope with anxiety and depression.
He described, "I can’t even begin to describe how much surfing has impacted my life. Like any other human, somedays I struggle with anxiety and depression. Some days I get to such a dark place mentally. When it gets really bad I just want to go out and party and drink my problems away, but that never erases the problems, just masks it."
Trevor continued, "Now, when I feel overwhelmed, I throw my board in the car and head down to the ocean. By the time I get out of the water, whether I’ve caught any good waves or not, I feel like a new person. All that being said, find something you love to do for yourself and don’t ever stop doing it."

The California native recently announced in an Instagram video that he contracted coronavirus after a camping trip with his friends. He said his symptoms started with a cough and a headache, and his sinuses "felt like they were on fire." Trevor described his body feeling as if he got hit by a train and he was "out for five days."
He's reached the end of his quarantine period and feels "much better."
