JoJo Fletcher Shares Her Expert Advice for First-Time Homebuyers
All potential homeowners out there, listen up! JoJo Fletcher is sharing some of her best tips and advice for what to do when buying a home for the first time.
JoJo joined Becca Kufrin and Rachel Lindsay on a new episode of "Bachelor Happy Hour" and chatted with the co-hosts about how she got into the real estate world. Rachel asked for advice and explained that she and Bryan are "still figuring out where we’re going to plant roots." She recently moved to Los Angeles — Becca, too — while Bryan is in Miami.
JoJo answered Rachel’s question by talking about her first property and the lessons she learned from that purchase.
She said, "I remember the first home that I ever bought on my own. It was the first home that I was ever going to renovate. It wasn’t a success story. I actually lost money on it and it didn’t end up going well for me for a few reasons. The biggest one I would say is that I didn’t do my due diligence. I didn’t know enough about the location."
JoJo emphasized the importance of location, calling it the "biggest thing" she looks out for when she’s buying a home.

She added, "You want your properties to appreciate and you want to know that if you’re going to sell it, you’re not going to lose money. I would tell first-time homebuyers to look at really good locations. Look at the area, look at the cost, and pick a place that you know you’re not going to lose money in, whether it’s growing and you see more new builds happening."
The Season 12 Bachelorette also told the "Happy Hour" co-hosts to "be smart with your money."

JoJo said, "Really know about your finances. Don’t just jump into something. Really know your numbers and break it down. Look at your worst-case scenario."
The Texas native continued, "It’s scary when you buy your first home, because that’s a lot of money. That’s a huge purchase. It’s so smart. If you’re able to do it, it’s a great way to park your money. It’s your own home and you’re not wasting your money on rent, but I get why people rent. It just has to fit within your lifestyle and your means. You have to feel really comfortable with it."
When it comes to renovation versus remodel versus building from scratch, JoJo said it all depends on the situation.
She explained, "You really need to do your homework and do your due diligence before buying a property. If you’re going to go in to renovate a house and think 'I just need to fix the floors and put in some fresh paint,' there could be way bigger issues — electrical, plumbing — and those add up so quickly. I think it just depends. If you can find a steal of a lot and find a good contractor, that might be the best route."

JoJo and Jordan bought their first home together in July 2019.
