Why Caila Quinn Canceled Her Plans for a Dream Wedding
Caila Quinn’s dream wedding to Nick Burrello will have to wait.
Caila announced Monday on Instagram and in a blog post on her website that she and her fiancé decided to cancel their two weddings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple was due to tie the knot in Lake Como, Italy, in May 2021 and again in her home state of Ohio in June 2021.
In May, when Caila and Nick signed their venue contracts, she explained why they opted for one destination wedding and one closer to home.
She wrote, "We fell in love traveling together our first year dating when I would tag along on his work trips through Germany, the UK, and France. Since he is Italian (last name Burrello) we envisioned Italy as the perfect place for us to say 'I do.'"
Caila revealed that their Italian wedding would be smaller and more intimate with 60 guests, whereas "Ohio will be 200 guests and a huge party celebration with live band... and less pressure on Nick & I since we’ve already said our vows once."

In her blog post, Caila offered up tips to other "Covid brides" who find themselves in the same boat as Caila and Nick.
She wrote, "Nick and I are both optimistic people. We originally gave ourselves the deadline of January 2021 to decide whether we would cancel our May 2021 Italy wedding. Secretly hoping the world might look different in a few months time with the election being past us and crossing our fingers for a released vaccine."
Caila explained that she thought creating a "deadline date is a smart way not to make a rash decision & give both partners time to come to conclusions on their own."
When October rolled around, Caila and Nick had to make a final decision about their Italy ceremony because they were due to pay another round of deposits.
She wrote, "Nick and I had already invested thousands of dollars into both weddings, should we take the risk of investing more if international travel to Europe is still banned and not even being talked about? Also, my friends and family are asking about booking flights while also dealing with more important life problems like being furloughed, home-schooling their kids, and health issues getting worse."

Caila then turned to her father for "definitive" advice and asked, "Dad – I need to know what is the right thing to do?"
He responded, "It’s almost like you and Nick are betting on a horse with a broken leg. This wedding has been limping along the entire time. It’s sweet of you to think it’s going to heal and get better by next year, but it won’t. It’s ok for you and Nick to bet on the horse, but now that your friends & family are starting to look into booking travel – do you think it’s right to encourage them to take the same risk?"
The 29-year-old wrote that her father's answer created a "resolution in my heart" and helped her form the final decision to cancel it.
She added on Instagram, "We feel really good about our decision and are excited to move forward knowing we will be able to celebrate with those we love & plan with a little more certainty."
Caila and Nick aren't the only couple who have had to change up their wedding plans due to the coronavirus pandemic. JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers postponed their nuptials to June 2021. Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk did the same, as well as Lesley Murphy and her fiancé Alex Kavanagh.
