'Betches' Social Media Gurus Kay Brown & Chris Burns on Staying Relevant Online
Social media has a tendency to feel overwhelming at times, especially with new trends popping up constantly.
Kay Brown and Chris Burns, who co-host "The Betchelor" podcast, chatted with Joe Amabile, Tayshia Adams, and Hannah Ann Sluss on a new episode of "Click Bait with Bachelor Nation" about this exact topic.
Tayshia asked the "Betches" social media gurus how they manage to "stay relevant" in such a saturated social media market, and Chris and Kay shared their best tips.
Kay said, "I think we just take in what everybody else is talking about. What’s trending? What’s going on? How can we make that into a fun segment on our Instagram account? Maybe it’s our pop culture round-up and we’re trying to work with a brand that wants to incorporate more pop culture."
She theorized that social media is "where it’s going to be" in terms of advertising.
Kay expressed, "It has to be on Instagram and social in general because it’s better publicity. You can have a billboard, you can have a commercial on TV, but social media marketing is targeted, which is why it’s more expensive and better. I’m not going to advertise lipstick on Joe’s Instagram account because why?"
Joe chimed in and admitted he’s "actually had women’s makeup companies reach out to me."
Nonetheless, Kay continued, "Being able to target your exact audience is the perfect way to spend your money. If I was a brand, I would want to work with you for specific things and not just be like, 'Here’s a billboard, I hope you see it and buy the product.'"
At another part in the podcast, Chris encouraged Kay to show off her tips for creating the perfect Instagram Story. Kay gives step-by-step directions on making a dynamic Story that’s sure to get shared.
Hannah Ann asked, "What's the key to engagement?"
Kay responded, "The key to engagement is finding the most sharable, relatable content and putting stuff out there that everyone can get into. Instead of posting a selfie, maybe posting a selfie with a tweet over it that people want to send to everyone else."
