Sydney Lotuaco Shares the Story Behind Her Relationship with Boyfriend Nick Wehby
Sydney Lotuaco has a millennial quarantine love story for the ages with her boyfriend Nick Wehby.
Nick joined Sydney and Nicole Lopez-Alvar on their podcast and spoke about the events leading up to him sending a fateful message to his now-girlfriend on Instagram. Nick and Sydney's relationship didn't begin with him merely following her on social media and risking it all to send a message. Instead, it goes back to a painful accident seven years ago that nearly left him as a quadriplegic.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native explained on the podcast that he dove into a pool one night, though he "couldn't really judge the bottom" because the pool lights were off. He ended up hitting the floor of the pool and dislocated his c3 and c4 vertebrae in his neck. The paramedics arrived and rushed him to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Once back at home with his parents, Nick was mostly confined to laying in bed or sitting on his couch.
He explained, "My mom used to watch 'The Bachelor,' and for whatever reason that summer, she liked that season. I’m couch ridden. If I’m not in my bed sleeping, I’m on my couch drugged up in a neck brace. I didn’t have a choice of what I’m doing, so whatever my mom was watching I had no say in the matter."
Nick said it became his "guilty pleasure." He continued watching other seasons months later and noticed that Sydney "stood out" to him. His roommate encouraged him to reach out to Sydney, and he hesitated before answering a question she posted on her Instagram Story.
Sydney said he "would just keep randomly reaching out" to her on social media, and it wasn't until a stop on the "Bachelor Live on Stage" tour that brought them closer. Sydney asked if he wanted to be the Bachelor for one of the events in Ohio. He turned down the offer, but gave her his number instead.

"Not two minutes later" Sydney texted him, and from there, their whirlwind romance kicked into high gear. When quarantine and the stay-at-home orders went into effect, Sydney and Nick FaceTimed every night for hours on end. She lived in Virginia and he in Ohio, so after three months, she flew to Ohio to finally meet him in person.
While they were both nervous about the physical chemistry, they clearly had nothing to worry about because they look as in love as ever.
