Arie Luyendyk Jr. & Lauren Burnham Take Bachelor Nation Inside the Emotional Journey to Having Twins
Hours after Lauren Burnham announced that she was expecting twins with husband Arie Luyendyk Jr., the beloved Bachelor Nation couple shared more about their journey to getting pregnant again in an emotional YouTube video.
Arie and Lauren — who are already parents to daughter Alessi, 19 months — began by sharing footage from inside their car, moments before they walked into an ultrasound appointment.
“I’m nervous and I feel like I’m probably going to cry regardless of what we see. I can’t really even talk about it. I’m getting emotional right now,” said Lauren, who experienced a devastating miscarriage in May.
“Last few times we’ve been here, it’s been tough,” Arie explained, before infusing positivity into the situation: “But I think that it’s so different this time around because you are feeling that morning sickness and I feel like that is an indication that things are more normal this time — at least that’s my theory. I’m no doctor.”
Inside the doctor’s office, Arie noted that he felt “pretty special” to be able to accompany Lauren to her appointment. Before she lost her pregnancy this spring, the race car driver-turned-real estate developer was unable to join Lauren for medical visits due to restrictions mandated during the beginning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I wasn’t going to do this all by myself again,” said a grateful Lauren.
It wasn’t long before the pair’s ultrasound technician told them the exciting news: “I think there might be two.”
Lauren, clearly shocked, looked over to Arie and, through a fit of giggles and tears, exclaimed: “Are you kidding me? Are you serious? Oh my God! Are you serious?”
According to Arie — who has younger identical twin brothers, Alec and Luca — he and Lauren had recently researched the probability of having twins of their own. “Is this your fault?” Lauren asked her spouse with a laugh. “I’ve never had twins in my family. I’m gonna be huge!”
“I’m in disbelief right now,” said a thrilled Arie.
“Oh my God, I never expected you to say that. I thought you were going to say something bad. But now I’m scared for other reasons,” Lauren joked to her ultrasound technician, who later reassured her, “It’s definitely real.”
Arie and Lauren also discovered that their twins are fraternal and are expected to arrive July 3. Back in their car, they talked through their feelings about welcoming not one but two little ones next year.
“I’m terrified on one end because I know it’s going to probably be a trickier pregnancy,” Arie said. “But I’m also really happy because it’s going to be so cool. I think we always really kind of wanted three, maybe not at the same time.”
Lauren then revealed, “I was going to have the next one and reevaluate. But now I don’t get an option!”
In a more serious moment, the soon-to-be mom of three expressed her fears. “I think it freaks me out more because it’s abnormal and I just want a healthy pregnancy, so I’m nervous,” she said.
“Don’t be nervous, be happy,” Arie replied emphatically. “I’m so stoked.”
Pondering the future, Lauren wondered what it would be like to have a son — or potentially even two. “The whole time, Arie and I are like, ‘I don’t know if we’ll be good boy parents. They’re so crazy,’” she said with a smile. “Now we’ll probably get two boys!”
