Abigail Shares Her Thoughts on Receiving Bachelor Matt James' First Impression Rose — and First Kiss!
Abigail Heringer stopped by “Bachelor Happy Hour” to chat with co-hosts Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin about her experience competing for Matt James’ heart on “The Bachelor.”
As Bachelor Nation witnessed on Monday night’s premiere episode, the gorgeous client financial manager from Beaverton, Oregon, received both Matt James’ First Impression Rose and the first kiss of Season 25. While her first night with the handsome lead couldn’t have gone better, Abigail explained why she was initially unsure whether they had a connection.
“I definitely thought I read the entire situation wrong just because when he started the night, he just seemed so genuine and so serious about this entire process. We had our conversation, we had our moment, and when he got up, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I totally read that wrong. Is he uncomfortable? Did he wish that didn’t happen? Did he have to take a step back and remove himself from the situation?’” she said, adding that her “heart kind of sank a little bit” when Matt excused himself from the room.
“So when he did come back with the rose, I was like, ‘OK, I kind of know where this is going now,’” she continued. “But I was freaking out. I think part of it was I never expected to be that person at the end of the night. It wasn’t something I was trying to go after. I was just wanting to make the most of the night to see if I could hit it off with the Bachelor. I definitely thought it was going to take a different turn, but I’m really glad that it didn’t.”
Abigail went on to say that she had doubts about her chances with Matt before filming began at Farmington, Pennsylvania’s Nemacolin Woodlands Resort (where the entirety of “The Bachelor” Season 25 was shot inside of a coronavirus-free bubble).
“The entire time when you’re getting ready, when you’re at home packing, and even traveling to where filming’s going to be, I think you do kind of have that doubt in the back of your mind of, ‘Can this work for me?’” she said. “Ultimately, we all know what’s at the end of this and we all want what comes at the end of this. And you see so many successful relationships come out of this. But at the same time, it is a fast process and you do wonder, never meeting the person, having somebody [like Matt] who’s never been on the show before that we don’t know that much about, ‘Can this work for me?’”
It appears as though the process is indeed working for Abigail and Matt. So, what about that kiss? “I plead the Fifth,” the contestant said with a laugh, refusing to give details about their onscreen smooch.
However, she did second-guess herself when it came to sharing an intimate moment with Matt on night one.
“If anything, I remember after the moment, I was like, ‘Did I read that situation totally wrong?’” Abigail recalled. “Because I kind of remember we were leaning in and sometimes you’re like, ‘Did he mean to go for a hug or is he going for the kiss?’ And then we kissed and I was like, ‘Oh my God, did I totally just read that wrong and did I initiate the kiss?’”
But Becca assured her, “No, you did not read that wrong — he wanted it!”
