Joe Amabile Shares Advice for Girls Sent Home Night 1 on 'The Bachelor'
He’s been there before.
On the latest episode of “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation,” co-host Joe Amabile shared his advice for the contestants who didn’t make it past Matt James’ first Rose Ceremony on Monday night’s Season 25 premiere of “The Bachelor.” As fans will recall, Joe was sent home night one during Becca Kufrin’s Season 14 of “The Bachelorette” in 2018.
“So, going home night one just sucks. There is no way to sugarcoat it. It’s embarrassing. You feel let down,” said the Sundays with Joe pasta sauce founder. “I would say, a few weeks before leaving for the show, it really consumes your entire being because you’re like, ‘I’m about to go on national television.’”
He continued, “You have to pack for two and a half months, you have to get ready for that first night, and all you’re thinking about — at least for me — is, ‘I just don’t want to f--k up the limo. I want to look good that first night because I don’t want to go home. I don’t want to be one of those guys standing there like, “I can’t believe I’m not getting a rose.”‘ So, it’s a letdown.”
Joe went on to detail the effort that he put into his night one appearance. “I went and bought a Gucci suit and then it didn’t fit and so I went and bought a Tom Ford suit. So I spent a ton of money on a suit,” he said with a laugh. “I remember sitting on the airplane going home in my Tom Ford suit from that night. Like, what the f--k?”
Following Becca’s dismissal, the former grocery store owner initially used partying as a salve for his bruised ego.
“There is no doubt about it, and you are going to feel s--tty. For me, it was St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago and I got home and I just went out and said, ‘Whatever,’” the Illinois native continued, adding that having a sense of humor about the situation helped him heal. “And, for me, what I like to do is find comedy in it and just laugh at myself.”
Despite his short-lived stint on “The Bachelorette,” Joe appeared on Season 5 of “Bachelor in Paradise” — where he found love with Kendall Long, though they ultimately called it quits in 2020 — and later competed on Season 27 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
With that in mind, he implored Matt’s Week 1 rejects — Alicia, Amber, Carolyn, Casandra, Corrinne, Emani, Kimberly, and Saneh — to look on the bright side. “Don’t sweat it because, guess what, you got picked out of thousands of people,” he said. “You took a chance, and who knows? You might go on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ and it all could work out and you’ll be on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”
