'Talking It Out': Nigel Barker Shares a Hilarious Behind-the-Scenes Secret from 'America's Next Top Model'
Nigel Barker stopped by “Talking It Out” to chat with co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo about his incredible career in fashion.
Of course, his 17-season stint as a photographer and judge on the hit reality series “America’s Next Top Model” came up. Asked by Mike to share something “hilarious” about the show’s host and creator, Tyra Banks, Nigel didn’t hesitate to reveal an amusing behind-the-scenes secret.
“I can tell you that she would do a lot of really funny things at the [judges’] table,” he began. “So, when we were sitting at the desk, quite often it would be boiling hot because [of] the lights. She would have very little on from the waist down. Because we’re sitting at the desk, you could only see us from the waist up.”
The V1VE app founder continued, “And quite often, she would just pick her feet up and put them on the table. There’s actually an episode where she puts her foot in my face and I grab it and I put it on my head, and I hold it and some other model [did the same]. I can’t remember who and I feel bad because it was probably another supermodel, but when you’re next to Tyra Banks, everyone else fades to insignificance. And I had both their feet in my face.”
According to Nigel, he also went sans pants when it was particularly hot on set. “We often joke about this, but next time you watch ‘Top Model,’ you can have a laugh at our expense because quite often, from the waist down, we were wearing not much more than our underwear and flip-flops because it was quite hot in some of those locations,” he added. “I call it the ‘fashion mullet’ — business on top, party on the bottom!”
