Experience Mexico City Like Ben Higgins on 'The Bachelor'
Mexico City is a cultural, culinary, and historical hotbed that will leave you aching to return at the next possible opportunity.
The city is not only the capital of Mexico but also a hub for various industries and tourism alike. From meandering through world-famous art museums to hiking in the verdant mountains, there are activities that appeal to all types of visitors. The timelessness of the city also acts as an ideal backdrop for a romantic getaway for a couple in love.
Ben Higgins traveled to Mexico City on Season 20 of “The Bachelor,” and here’s how you can experience the city just like him!
Arrival
Like any major city, you’ll have your fair share of hotels and accommodations from which to choose. If you and your date are looking for a luxurious and elegant hotel in the middle of one of Mexico City’s best neighborhoods, look no further than the Four Seasons.
Once you’ve set your luggage down in your stunning hotel room, hit the city and start exploring!
One-on-One Date: Pick Me for the Picnic
Mexico City dates back centuries, and historical artifacts both inside and outside of the city pay tribute to that fact.
There’s no better way to spend one of your first days in the city than by visiting one of the most famous sites dating back to the fifth century B.C. Teotihuacan is situated about 30 miles away from Mexico City and was resettled by the Aztecs in the 15th century. You and your date can bask in the astounding history surrounding you in the temples and pyramids of Teotihuacan. While you’re there, stop for a picnic and let history be the perfect backdrop to discuss your future.
To take your date up a notch, follow Ben’s lead and charter a hot air balloon to see what the ruins look like from above. Once you’re back on land, head back into the Santa Fe neighborhood of Mexico City for a romantic date night. Don’t forget to say “salud” to your relationship and chat about how your love can last just as long as the structures in Teotihuacan.
Group Date: Recipe for Love
Experiencing the local culinary scene is always one of the best parts of a vacation, and that mentality is no different in Mexico City. The city is home to some of the best restaurants in the world, so there’s no better way to woo your loved one than to do so through the appetite! After all, the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach, right?
Ben and the ladies took Spanish classes at Universidad de la Comunicación as a part of their group date. Whether or not you have much familiarity with the language, head to the large Mercado Roma and buy some ingredients for a homemade meal.
Don’t forget to give a rose to whomever makes your favorite food!
Once you’re sated after your delicious meal, head to Downtown Mexico hotel for a vibrant and historical night out.
One-on-One Date: Dating — But Make It Fashion
Like few other cities in the world, Mexico City hosts a Fashion Week. Ben and his lucky date attended Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where they modeled some clothing and participated in a real catwalk.
Though you may not have the same opportunity on your trip to Mexico City (never say never!), you can still embody Ben’s trip here by checking out some local designers, namely Pineda Covalin. Pineda Covalin combines fashion with Mexican culture and history, creating clothing and accessories that speak to the heart and soul of the country.
After shopping around the city, you’ll wear your heart on your sleeve, as well as a singular look with Mexico City at its heart and core.
Mexico City is a rich cultural metropolis that can appeal to all sorts of couples and travelers. From the moment you walk down its cobblestone streets, you’ll know it’s a city where your relationship can grow and your horizons will expand.
