Experience Uruguay Like JoJo Fletcher on 'The Bachelorette'
Sandwiched between Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay is a true South American gem. One of the country’s shining stars is Punta del Este, a resort town on the Atlantic Ocean nicknamed “the St. Tropez of South America” thanks to its 20 miles of stunning beaches, luxurious lifestyle, and cultural landmarks. If you’re looking to head to a seaside destination that’ll leave you wanting to come back for more, look no further than Punta del Este!
JoJo Fletcher traveled to Uruguay on Season 12 of “The Bachelorette,” and here’s how to experience the country just like her.
Where to Stay
With a coastline like this, you’ll want to book a hotel room with easy access to the beach. JoJo and the guys stayed at The Grand Hotel, a gorgeous accommodation within arm’s reach of the water. The Grand Hotel offers rooms with ocean views, as well as restaurants for all types of occasions. It’s a dreamy spot that’ll be the perfect home base for your romantic trip to Punta del Este.
One-on-One Date: Can I Seal You for a Second?
Take advantage of Punta del Este’s beautiful scenery and spend the day on the water! For a fun and adventurous first day in the region, be like JoJo and take a boat ride out to Los Lobos Island, which is only about five miles away from the city.
Los Lobos Island has a special claim to fame: It has one of the largest populations of sea lions in the world. You can bask in their presence from a boat, or, if you’re feeling extra courageous, grab your date’s hand and swim in the water surrounded by these magnificent creatures.
When you’re back on land, have a romantic dinner by the water and seal the deal with a kiss to make it a perfect date in Uruguay.
Group Date: Dune You Accept This Rose?
Uruguay’s beaches and sand dunes are reason enough to visit the South American country. Barra de Valizas — the Valizas sand dunes — are a popular spot for visitors and locals alike for both water and sand surfing.
If you and your date are sports-oriented, you’ll love boarding down the dunes, which reach 130 feet at their peak. Instead of riding the waves, you’ll ride the sand. Hopefully, your date will be just as smooth of a trip.
One-on-One Date: Hand in Hand
If you’re a fan of art, be sure to put visiting “La Mano de Punta del Este” on your travel bucket list. The giant sculpture in the middle of the beach shows large fingers emerging from the sand, and this piece of art has been a trendy destination since its construction in 1982.
“La Mano” sits on Playa Brava, a popular beach in Playa del Este. Once you’ve taken all your photos by the sculpture, make your way to Casapueblo, a museum and hotel. The building’s striking architectural style will fit in perfectly with your artfully inspired day.
Just like the hand in the sculpture arose from the sand, so, too, will your relationship after this day in Uruguay!
Sometimes, you and your date want an outside-the-box vacation destination that will bring your relationship to new heights. If that’s the case, look no further than Punta del Este and its striking oceanside beauty. You won’t regret your time away when you’re in Uruguay!
