Experience Oslo, Norway, Like Rachel Lindsay on 'The Bachelorette'
Bundle up, because it’s time to head to Norway!
Norway consistently places in the top three spots on the World Happiness Index — they were No. 1 in 2017, No. 3 in 2019 — and when you visit, it’s easy to see why! Oslo, the country’s capital, houses world-class art museums, Michelin-starred restaurants, cultural sites galore, and a history that dates back centuries upon centuries (the 11th century to be exact). If you’re looking for European vacation spots outside of the Western European norm, look no further than Oslo.
Rachel Lindsay traveled to the Scandinavian city on Season 13 of “The Bachelorette,” and here’s how you can follow along if you visit.
Where to Stay
Whether you want to stay in the central city or more towards nature, Oslo offers hotel accommodations of all types! Scandic Holmenkollen Park, where Rachel and the guys stayed, mixes the two in its comforting lodging. The hotel has sweeping views of the city and fjord while also having convenient access to ski slopes and downtown Oslo.
If and when you check in here, you’re sure to say that this hotel rose above the rest.
One-on-One Date: Trust Exercise
Winter sport aficionados love Oslo for its trails and variety of skiing options. If you want to hit the slopes and get that adrenaline pumping, look into some activities run by Skiforeningen, the Association for the Promotion of Skiing. May we suggest that you and your date adventure out to Holmenkollen where you can check out the famous 314-foot ski jump! If just seeing isn’t enough for you, take things up a notch and try rappelling!
After your ski-filled day, immerse yourself in Norwegian culture at the Norsk Folkemuseum, the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. You and your date can add your own piece of history to the collection with this special moment in your relationship.
Group Date: Let's Play Ball!
Get your blood pumping and stay warm with a classic Norwegian sport: Handball. You and your group can head over to an athletic center, like the one in Oppsal, and try your hand at the sport. This is not anything like the handball you played at recess in elementary school — it’s actually a major phenomenon in the region. See who’s willing the play the hardest for your affection and once you crown a winner, you can give them extra time at the evening portion of your date.
One-on-One Date: All Aboard the Fjord
Norway is famous for its fjords, which are waterways between mountains that have been formed by glaciers. For the experience of a lifetime, do as The Bachelorette does and charter a helicopter flight to take you all over the city and to the forest. To continue the enchanting feeling of your day together, head over to Losby Gods, an old manor house and hotel known for its golf course. This date will feel like the perfect hole-in-one!
From the fjords to the forest to the food, Oslo has it all for the romantic vacation of a lifetime.
