'Very Cavallari' Star Justin Anderson Shares the Emotional Story of Reuniting with His Adopted Son
Justin Anderson stopped by “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” and shared the emotional story of reuniting with his now-20-year-old son while chatting with co-hosts Tayshia Adams, Joe Amabile, and Natasha Parker.
As the “Very Cavallari” star explained, he and his high school girlfriend placed their child for adoption following an unplanned pregnancy.
“Right after high school, we had a kid together. We put him up for adoption. There was definitely a period of my life where I was having sex with my girlfriend all the time. I dated lots of women and I was kind of trying to convince myself,” said the celebrity hair colorist, who eventually came out as gay and now lives with his partner, Austin Rhodes, in Nashville.
“I thought that’s what I was supposed to be doing. But in the back of my mind, I knew I was gay,” he added. “We immediately put him up for adoption because we were both still in school.”
Years later, Justin heard from his son.
“We put him up for adoption, a bunch of years went by, and literally, I think it was probably seven years ago now, I was sitting on my couch in Los Angeles, and I got a direct message from my son on Instagram. It just said, ‘Hey,’” he recounted. “And I remember seeing the little picture and I’m like, ‘Why is that cute young kid writing me on Instagram?’ So, I open it up and then I looked at his picture and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ And then he wrote, ‘Do you know who this is?’ And I was like, ‘Woah!’”
Justin and his son eventually met up and have since maintained a solid relationship. “My family and his family, we had dinner together. It was this amazing experience. We had a lot of words with each other. I talked to him about everything,” he said. “I explained to him where his mom and myself were at the time and why we made the decision that we did. It was amazing.”
In response, Justin said his son gave him “the biggest hug ever” and told him, “Thank you for giving me life. I have the most beautiful family now.”
He added, “And we’ve kept in touch. We text all the time. We talk all the time. I was just talking to his adoptive mom the other day. [The adoption] ended up being a beautiful thing.”
