Katie Thurston Shares Powerful Message in Honor of Mental Health Awareness Month
One month before she is set to hand out roses as the Season 17 Bachelorette, Katie Thurston is doling out solid advice in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, which is celebrated each year in May.
“OK, I wanted to share something that was brought to my attention the other day, and I can’t stop thinking about it now,” the franchise star said in a video shared via Instagram this week. “It’s such a good mindset to have, especially given that this month is Mental Health Awareness Month.”
Katie continued, “And that is, someone giving you their time is the biggest gift because that is a piece of their life that they will never get back, OK? But I want you to flip that and think about who you are giving your time to, your mental energy, pieces of your life that you will never get back. Who are you giving that to?”
According to the stunning Washington native, it’s crucial to part ways with individuals whose energy and actions negatively impact your well-being.

“Those people that are not good for you: toxic, make you sad, make you mad, make you jealous, angry, anything. Why are you wasting your energy on them?” she concluded. “Because you know what? You can’t make everyone happy. You can’t. So, remember time is a gift and use it wisely.”
Katie — who became an instant fan favorite on “The Bachelor” Season 25 for her unique sense of humor and protective nature — is known for providing enlightening advice and comforting words of affirmation.
As Bachelor Nation will recall, Katie became a shoulder to cry on for castmate Sarah Trott, who was emotional after making the decision to leave the show so she could care for her terminally ill father. Later in the season, Katie frequently — and confidently — defended her fellow contestants against “mean girl” behavior in the house.
Now, it seems as though Katie’s fierce personality will serve her well in her search for love on “The Bachelorette” Season 17. “I am who I am, and I want to meet someone who knows who they are,” she stated in the first promo for the show. “My person’s still out there.”
“The Bachelorette” Season 17 premieres Monday, June 7, on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
