Sydney Lotuaco Opens Up About Being a 'Proud' Filipino Woman in Honor of Asian Heritage Month
In honor of Asian Heritage Month — celebrated each year in May — Sydney Lotuaco took to Instagram on Thursday to share her pride in being Filipino.
“I don’t talk about this too much, but with the last few days of #AsianHeritageMonth I just want to say I’m proud to be a half Filipino half Irish girl,” wrote the Bachelor Nation star, accompanied by gorgeous photos of herself rocking a sweatshirt from the Asian American Girl Club.
“I’m proud of my Filipino side, I’m proud of my Irish side. I’m proud of the girl I am today, of the girl I was before, and of the girl that I’m becoming,” she continued. “I’m proud of what I represent in a room even if everyone in that room looks like me or doesn’t. I’m proud to be who I am.”
Sydney then expressed gratitude to Ally Maki, who founded the Asian American Girl Club, which advocates for AAPI representation and celebrates the community in its line of apparel.
“It’s so good to feel like you belong, like you’re represented, and I felt that by listening to her story,” the franchise alum wrote. “So no matter who you are make sure you’re proud of that person and that you’re not afraid to be that person in every room you go into.”
She concluded, “Special shout-out to my #AsianAmericanGirlClub today but I love each and every one of you seeing this equally!”
