Mike Johnson Shares Update on His Love Life and How He Navigates Dating in the Limelight
On this week’s episode of “Talking It Out,” Mike Johnson told co-host Bryan Abasolo about his current love life and the challenges of dating in the limelight after finding fame within Bachelor Nation.
Though he is grateful for all the support he’s received from fans after appearing on “The Bachelorette” Season 15 and “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 6 in 2019, Mike said that pursuing women outside of the franchise can be tricky at times because of his notoriety.
“I’m the single one out of the two of us and I have begun to explore the DM world,” Mike told Bryan, who is married to Season 13 Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.
The handsome U.S. Air Force veteran went on to explain how he protects himself — and his reputation — when making connections with potential love interests via Instagram.
“If I give out my number, which is [rare], the first few text messages — I’m talking about the first three — are like, ‘Hey, I’m using this for legal purposes that this will stay between us. Do you consent to that? Yes or no?’” said Mike, who has 620,000 followers and counting. “It’s like a via text thing like, what we send is going to stay here.”
Bryan responded, “I feel you, bro. You’re single. You’re in the limelight. I’m sure countless women want to date you. But fame comes with a price. How do you handle the single life, now that you’re in the limelight, if a woman’s intentions are sincere or if she’s just trying to use you for clout?”
Despite his concerns that a woman may be engaging with him for the wrong reasons, Mike told Bryan that he makes a concerted effort to continuously put himself out there.
“You just got to throw yourself out there because if you don’t throw yourself out there, then you’re just going to be sitting in the house all day every day,” he said. “I don’t have none of these dating apps… I just have Instagram and on Instagram, it goes down in the DMs.”
Added Mike, “To the one percent I do respond to where I’m like, ‘Let’s see where it can go from here,’ I let it be known up front, ‘This is what it is. I will not blast your information. Don’t blast my information.’ That’s all I can do, though.”
