High Notes with Sheridan Reed: Catching Up with the 'Listen to Your Heart' Star
It’s been just over a year since the inaugural season of “The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart” finished airing on ABC.
The spin-off followed single singers and songwriters hoping to find love with each other through a shared passion for music. As viewers will recall, contestants performed well-known songs together — while also exploring their relationships with the help of “Bachelor”-style dates that focused on music. A handful of notable artists came in to act as guest judges throughout the series, such as Kesha, Jason Mraz, Toni Braxton, Ashlee Simpson, and Jewel.
But it was the gifted cast members who continuously stole the show with powerful vocals and, of course, major drama. So, what have they been up to since the competition concluded and cameras went down?
BachelorNation.com is progressively checking in with the cast, who are sharing love life updates, favorite memories from filming, musical milestones, and more.
Below, we’re catching up with Sheridan Reed, whose sweet personality and soulful voice made him beloved among fans. Bachelor Nation watched him continuously put his heart on the line for partner Julia Rae, who derailed their relationship in her pursuit of Brandon Mills.
Although Sheridan didn’t find love on “Listen to Your Heart,” his friendships from the show — as well as his solo career — have continued to flourish. Read on for his high notes!
What did you learn about yourself from competing on “Listen to Your Heart”?
That I defined my self-worth from the reflection or reception of others and that has been something I’ve now been able to consciously work on.
How did the show help you grow as an artist?
It definitely challenged me in new ways: learning music quickly, performing in stressful and less-than-ideal situations, with people I never had before.
What is your favorite memory from filming?
My favorite memory from filming may be the early mornings where everyone was casual, still processing the events of the day before, and bonding over music.
If you have any regrets from your time on the show, what would you have done differently?
I think I probably would have stood up for myself and what I want or deserved sooner.
What was your proudest moment on the show?
My proudest moment on the show was the breakup with Julia, not allowing myself to accept less than I deserve.
What has been your biggest musical accomplishment since doing the show?
Several releases, including “Coming Back,” the song I wrote while Julia was gone on her date with Brandon, hitting almost 200,000 streams across platforms.

How did the show impact your outlook on love?
It definitely made me consider not just chemistry but how overall compatibility is a huge part of a relationship.
If you could only sing with two other “LTYH” contestants for the rest of your life, who would you choose?
Rudi and Gabe [Baker]!
How would you describe your strongest friendship on the show and who was it with?
This is tough, as I got pretty close with several people. I think I’d probably say Russell [Johnson] or Gabe. Russell and I definitely bonded over feeling completely out of place, and Gabe and I were able to hang out a lot after, though, as he was in Texas as well!
Would you ever date a musician again?
I would definitely date a musician again, but I don’t think I’d do it with the intention of becoming a duo. I think it’s amazing dating someone who can relate to so many things in my life, but it’s also OK to understand while keeping it separate.
How would you describe your love life today?
Since the show, I had my most in-depth and longest relationship, which did unfortunately end several months ago — but it taught me a massive amount about myself and what I need. At this point, I’m very much single, open to love, but not willing to settle for less than I want or deserve.
What are you looking forward to in the rest of 2021?
I’m so incredibly excited to be able to play live shows with my full band again for a live audience!
