‘Talking It Out’: Deandra Kanu Explains Her Tweet About Brendan’s ‘Paradise’ Behavior and Weighs In on the Drama
Bachelor Nation fans first met Deandra Kanu on Season 24 of “The Bachelor,” and she hit the beaches of “Bachelor in Paradise” this summer looking for another shot at love.
Deandra didn’t meet “the one” down in “Paradise,” but on this week’s episode of “Talking It Out,” she did say that she still had a great experience and was grateful she “got to be there for her friends and make new friends.”
One of the friends Deandra really showed up for was Natasha Parker, especially when it came to the drama between Natasha and Brendan Morais.
Fans saw Brendan and Natasha make an initial connection in “Paradise” — until Pieper James arrived on the beach.
As soon as Pieper got there, she and Brendan seemingly picked up where they left off prior to “Paradise,” since they had met and gone on dates before filming.

Deandra shared that while she isn’t always the voice of reason among her family and friends, she was glad to be able to play that role on the beach. The Bachelor Nation star noted that from her perspective, Brendan’s stories — both with Natasha and Pieper — just weren’t adding up.
She said that he and Pieper seemed like they were on different pages upon her arrival and he and Natasha were clearly in different places when it came to whether their relationship was friends or more than friends.
As all of this was unfolding, Deandra took to Twitter and wrote, “The way Brendan is continuously shaming black women on this beach by insinuating they’re undesirable makes me UNCOMFY. #BachelorInParadise.”

During the conversation on “Talking It Out,” co-host Mike Johnson asked Deandra to unpack what she meant by this tweet.
Deandra explained, “I have no personal beef with Brendan. It’s crazy because on the beach I was respectful to him, I communicated to him.”
She continued, “But hearing the episode and hearing what he was talking about me, saying like, ‘Oh, Deandra’s just angry because no one is talking to her,’ it’s just crazy to me because why is it when you’re describing Demi, it is just, ‘Oh, Demi’s a character,’ but when it comes to me and Natasha, it’s, ‘They’re undesirable. No one is talking to them.’ Why is that the only comeback that you have?”
Deandra added that there were other things he could’ve said about her rather than commenting on her desirability. “It didn’t really make sense, so I was like, it has to do with something that’s deeper than just you talking sh*t about someone,” she noted.
Deandra said that what Brendan said about her on the show was hurtful, admitting, “The way that he worded it was so grimy to me. I was like, ‘Why are you constantly trying to paint this picture that me and Natasha are so undesirable on this beach?’”
Mike and co-host Bryan Abasolo went on to ask Deandra about Brendan’s other comments where he called the women “disgruntled females,” and if that upset her.
She replied that she was less offended by anything he said at that point because he obviously felt “cornered.” She did reveal that “it felt like it was him categorizing everyone who was on the beach. Anyone who was not Pieper is a disgruntled female. Anyone who talks to me about something that isn’t what I want to hear, you’re a disgruntled female. Honey, we’re not angry at you as a person, we’re angry at the situation. We don’t hate you.”
Deandra added that she wishes Brendan had just been “more honest from the jump.”
