Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston Gives Tips on Applying to Bachelor Nation Shows
Take the leap!
Ever think about applying to be on a Bachelor Nation show? Well, there’s no better time than now, and former Bachelorette Katie Thurston has some helpful tips for getting your application noticed.
Every year, eligible singles look for love on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” and some even head to the beach for “Bachelor in Paradise.”
And if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to apply, who better to learn from than someone who was cast on the shows herself?
Former Bachelorette Katie said you should start by following @BachelorCasting on social media.
In a video posted to her Instagram page, the Bachelor Nation star spoke about @BachelorCasting, saying, “That is a real account that is managed by casting producers. That’s going to have the link for applying for Bachelor Bachelorette or even nominating somebody. They will also have the most up to date information on what season they’re casting for what types of people they’re looking for.”

Katie also gave some specific tips on how to make your social media pages stand out.
She said, “This is where things get serious, because this is your one and only shot to make a great first impression. On that application, it lists social media as being optional, but not only should you list all of them, you should make sure your social media is public. I think that’s where a lot of people mess up. if they can’t see what you look like, how you engage with others, and what your activities of interest are, they don’t have time to waste.”
When it comes to your social media pages, they not only need to be public but according to Katie they need to have recent photos and videos.
“Also, make sure your social media is up to date. If you have old photos, or outdated love interests on there, it’s time to do a little sprucing up your social media. Are you natural on camera? Can you talk to people? Can you handle interviews? Make sure you have a good variety of pictures of you and they should be unfiltered and take off the sunglasses. Really highlight who you are as a person and make that shown and known in your social media,” Katie explained.
The Bachelor Nation star also suggests making some videos of yourself talking to the camera and not to worry about that seeming awkward. Even if you’re just uploading some daily vlogs or short clips, it can show your personality.
Fellow former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky Manno chimed in on the comments of Katie's post writing, "This is so interesting to me because the process was so so so different back when I applied. So when I give people advice it has nothing to do with social media, but it makes so much sense why it matters now."
Katie also shared some tips on how to make your application itself stand out from the thousands the casting producers receive.
She said, “Fill out that application to the fullest and to your best effort. Just like when you’re applying for a job you need to amplify who you are, really take the time to be unique and describe what it is that you're looking for and who it is that you are. Hype yourself up and really be excited. Be your own cheerleader when filling out this application, because that’s gonna stand out.”
Katie said don’t be afraid to reach out to casting producers on social media if you’re able to find their pages.
“If you just look up #castingproducer, there are chances that you’ll find accounts, especially on TikTok, of people who are producers for reality TV shows. Finding these producers out there is not that hard and they want to find you as well. So if you’re really wanting to be on the show, don’t feel bad about DMing them. Don't feel bad about commenting or engaging with them online,” Katie explained.
And if you’re worried about being too old to be on a Bachelor Nation show, Katie says you’re wrong.
Not only has the franchise been casting for a senior version of “The Bachelor” but Katie said some of the rumored Bachelors for the next season are a bit older too.
The former Bachelorette said, “If you think you're too old to apply, you’re wrong. There are rumors right now about who the next Bachelor might be, actually there’s a few rumors, and those men are older than 30. If you think you’re too old to apply, you’re wrong, do it. If you’ve applied before and then never got a call, do not be discouraged.”
She revealed that she actually applied for Nick’s season and didn’t hear back, so she applied again for Matt James’ season and got cast.
Some other tips Katie offered include leaning into your connections if you know anyone who’s been on the show, not posting about chatting with casting producers if you do hear back from one, and manifesting the experience if you really want it.
If you have more questions about the application process, Katie answers tons of fan questions in the comments of her post.
