Andy Grammer Reveals the Inspiration for His Song ‘Lease on Life,’ Which He Performed on ‘The Bachelorette’
Bachelor Nation fans saw multi-platinum singer and songwriter Andy Grammer on this week’s episode of “The Bachelorette.”
Andy performed for Bachelorette Michelle Young and Rick on their romantic one-on-one date.
After Michelle gave Rick a rose, the two made their way to a private dance floor, where Andy serenaded them with his new single “Lease on Life.”
The song came out earlier this year after a difficult last couple of years in the ongoing pandemic.
Andy stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast to reveal the inspiration behind his uplifting song.
In the chorus, Andy sings “Everything’s gonna be all right, everything’s gonna be all right / Got a brand new, got a brand new, got a brand new lease on life / Everything’s gonna be all right when I look into your eyes.”
And despite the song being extremely uplifting, the singer revealed that the lyrics actually come from a dark time.
Andy told co-hosts Joe, Natasha, and Tia that when writing the song, “It was definitely gnarly. Quarantine was occurring. I couldn’t do the thing that makes me the happiest, which is being around people and creating music that makes us all feel better about being alive.”
Andy noted that performing music live for his fans is his “favorite,” adding, “There’s something about everyone being together and singing together that’s almost spiritual.”
But amid being locked down at home, Andy found his silver lining, which gave him his new “Lease on Life” during a very difficult time.

The singer said, “The world was falling apart, but at the same time, my daughter was born in my living room the second week of COVID. So I had the worst situation we’ve ever been a part of, especially for me personally because I’m a super extrovert and quarantine was my nightmare. But while that was all happening, I also had the sweetest thing that’s undeniably great. It was pretty hard to be bummed out when I had this new little girl in my life.”
He continued, explaining that while he couldn’t perform for his fans, there was a bright side to not being on tour, and that was getting to spend so much time with his newborn daughter.
“She’s my little light, and no matter what’s going on, things can’t be that bad. She did make it feel all new. The song came from a place of immense despair, but in the despair, I found something so great,” Andy explained.
He said his older daughter loves listening to the song about her little sister and is constantly asking to hear it when they get in the car together.
How sweet!
