Celebrate the holidays with Bachelor Nation!
Fans got to know and love Jessenia Cruz on Season 25 of “The Bachelor” and Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
And now, the Bachelor Nation star is sitting down with BachelorNation.com for an exclusive interview about her favorite holiday foods and traditions.
Check out Jessenia’s entire interview — including the recipe for her favorite holiday drink — below!
Bachelor Nation: Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving recipe to make?
Jessenia Cruz: It’d probably be meatballs! My mom would make them when I was little and they were awesome to snack on leading up to Thanksgiving dinner.
BN: Sounds delicious! What about a favorite recipe for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa?
JC: I love flan! I have a big sweet tooth, so after a savory meal, having a slice of flan (or two) is the perfect way to finish.
BN: Sweets are the best! In your opinion, what is the best holiday food?
JC: For me, it’s pernil. My family is from Puerto Rico and we still cook a lot of the traditional foods. Pernil is a delicious, marinated, slow-roasted pork shoulder, and it’s so mouthwatering. It’s typically served with a side of rice and beans!

BN: Yum! Did you have a favorite holiday food to eat/make while growing up?
JC: It would probably be flan, because I loved to lick the spoon after my mom finished stirring the mixture! The whole house would smell amazing too while it baked in the oven.
BN: And what is your favorite holiday tradition that you do with your family?
JC: My family has gone from getting dressed up and going to holiday parties to being completely content staying at home, wearing matching PJs just ’cause it’s fun, and playing board games at home. We’ll cook a big meal just for us (pretty much enough for three days) and enjoy each other’s company. I’m grateful for it because I’m such a homebody. So I’m always happy to spend the holidays with them in total relaxation while we enjoy food, drinks, and games.

BN: How sweet! Sounds lovely. Is there a dish from your family’s background/culture that you incorporate into the holidays? If so, would you share the recipe with us?
JC: I actually incorporate a drink! My dad makes this delicious drink with rum. I’ve shared this recipe with all my friends, even co-workers, and they all love it! It’s called Coquito, and it’s a mix of 2 cans of evaporated milk, 1 can of cream of coconut, 1 can of coconut milk, 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup of white rum, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon. Mix all together in a blender and chill it in the fridge before serving in a small glass. It’s a great drink to sip on!
BN: We’re going to have to try that recipe this year! And last but not least, do you always go back for seconds and leave room for dessert?
JC: No matter how many plates I’ve had, there’s always room for dessert! ;)
