Brandon J. Reflects on Meeting Michelle Young’s Parents and Why He Asked Them THAT Important Question
Fans are watching Brandon J. and Michelle Young’s love story unfold on this season of “The Bachelorette.”
And after Brandon J. and Michelle’s romantic one-on-one date from this week’s episode, he stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast to discuss his time on the show.
Brandon J. talked about everything from the drama in the house to his connection with Michelle, and he went in detail about what it was like meeting Michelle’s parents on their date this week.
Fans saw Brandon J. and Michelle get walked in on while kissing in the hot tub by her mom and dad, and while that sounds like it would be pretty awkward, Brandon J. said it was actually really special to meet them.
At first, Brandon J. said, “I’m holding their daughter on my lap and kissing her in the hot tub, so that already is awkward. If I was a parent, I’d be like, ‘You better let go of my daughter!’”

He continued, “I thought it couldn’t get worse until her dad looked down and was like, ‘Those shorts look familiar,’ as I was wearing his swim trunks. But that actually broke the ice and I was so happy to get to meet the parents. That never happens. It was very special.”
And Brandon J. took the opportunity to turn that special moment into another one. He said he asked Michelle if he could have a moment to talk to her parents alone, which was when he asked for Michelle’s hand in marriage.
Brandon J. said, “At that moment, I was so invested in Michelle and I didn’t know where I was going to end up in this process or where her connections were with other guys, so I realized it was an opportunity I couldn’t let go.”
He continued, “Just being the old soul that I am, my parents always told me to ask a woman’s parents for her hand in marriage. It was just a respect thing. Those are the people who raised this amazing woman. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get another chance, so I went a little bit off script and they called it ‘Brandon going rogue.’”

Brandon J. has no regrets about asking Michelle’s parents this big question so early on, and he said that that’s just him to be bold and speak from the heart.
It was the same feeling as when he gave Michelle the special bracelet his mom made him.
Brandon J. went into more detail about this sweet gift on the podcast, saying, “My mom really made that bracelet before I went on the show. She told me that if this is your person, have her wear the bracelet and if we are lucky enough to meet her and I see that bracelet, she’ll know what it means.”
