Astrid Loch Shares Her Birth Story and Labor Advice in New Q&A, Plus: Would She Choose to Keep Her Baby’s Sex Secret Again?
Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt met on Season 5 of “Bachelor in Paradise.” Since then, the two have gotten engaged, Astrid moved to Canada, and they just welcomed their first child together!
The couple first announced their pregnancy in May 2021 after Astrid opened up about their experience with IVF and infertility.
And now their son is finally here! August William Wendt was born November 20 and the Bachelor Nation stars have been sharing adorable photos of their bundle of joy ever since.
Astrid also just found some time as a busy new mom to answer some fan questions about everything from her labor experience to whether she’d want to keep the sex of their baby a surprise again next time. (Kevin and Astrid didn’t know Auggy’s sex until he was born!)
On her Instagram Stories, Astrid answered as many questions as she could, starting with sharing August’s birth story.

She wrote, “So many people are asking for my birth story. I ended up getting induced. Auggy measured in the 18th perciticle and because he’s an IVF baby, my doctor didn’t want me to go past my due date. I went in Thursday to get the foley bulb, but ended up already being three centimeters so there was no point… They broke my water at 4 PM on Friday and by 7 PM I felt contractions. At 10:30 PM I asked for an epidural. Contractions are no joke, I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath at the end.”
Astrid shared that she was happy to get an epidural when she did because she was just about ready to push.
“45 minutes later, Saturday at 2:02 AM, August made his debut and Kevin told me the sex and cut the umbilical cord,” Astrid explained.
When asked if they would choose not to know the sex of their baby again, Astrid said “100000%. Having Kevin tell me was the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced and we will both never forget that feeling. I don’t think anything else will ever compare. It’s one of the few surprises you can still have in life and I promise, once you make the decision to wait, everyone else will think about it way more than you ever do.”
What an amazing experience!

Astrid also shared her labor and delivery advice for other moms-to-be, writing, “Take labor one step/minute at a time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. I didn’t go into birth with a big birth plan because I knew if anything went off plan it would 100% stress me out more.”
She said she knew her preferences but went into it with the mindset that you can’t control everything and that her body would tell her what she and her baby needed.
Astrid’s biggest advice is to choose the right doctor, midwife, doula, and location because they will “do everything in their power to make things as comfortable for you as possible.”
And lastly, the Bachelor Nation star shared that Kevin actually came up with August’s name. She said, “Kev started looking up traditional German names and loved Augustus. We felt that might be too old school, but we really loved August as a nickname so he suggested August and it stuck.”
We love the name, and we’re so happy for Kevin, Astrid, and August! Congrats to the growing family!
