Nick Viall Shares Dating Advice for Turning a ‘Situationship’ into a Real Relationship
Nick Viall has your back!
Have you ever been dating someone and you’re ready to take things to the next level, but they seem to be stuck in the “situationship” phase? You’re not alone.
In case you aren’t familiar with the term situationship, it’s a relationship that is not considered to be formal or established but instead is just casual.
Oftentimes, this can be extremely taxing for one or both parties involved in the situationship, especially if one person is ready to get more serious.
Well, former Bachelor and dating advice guru Nick Viall has you covered with a tip for how to go from a situationship to a real relationship.
Nick started off by saying, “Here’s a situationship hack for someone you want to be in a relationship with. Next time they hit you up late afternoon or early evening and ask you what you’re up to, you reply back that you’re getting ready for a date.”
Nick continued, “Ideally you have a date planned, but in the interest of not lying, you get on the apps and plan a date with literally anyone.”
The Bachelor Nation star said the person will pretend like they don’t care and ask you who it’s with, but Nick says not to reply to that yet.

If they follow up, Nick says to just say sorry and that you’re in a rush. He said, “You want them stewing on who you’re going on a date with.”
After the person persists in trying to ask who the date is with, Nick advised, “Hit them with their first name only. Like, ‘His name is John’ or ‘Her name is Kelly’ because this will make it more real for them.”
Nick added that if they try to dig for more information, just reply, “Sorry, running out the door, can we talk tomorrow?” and then no matter what or how many times they text you, do not reply for the rest of the night.
The former Bachelor said not to apologize if they follow up the next day because it’s something “you have a right to do.”
In the comments of his post, Nick also added, “What most people do, is still go on dates and avoid telling the person there in a situationship with because they’re afraid they will get mad and their chances of getting them to commit. They give away all their power which doesn’t change anything. This is the honest, more mature version of that. With just a dash of gamesmanship ;).”
He also revealed that his girlfriend Natalie taught him this trick, saying it “works every time” and “the truth if you’re in a situationship you should be still dating and not hiding it from them.”
Sooo, if you’re still in a situationship going into 2022, consider this a sign that it might be time to give Nick’s trick a try!
