Rodney Gushes Over His Friendship with Michelle & Nayte, Plus: His Reaction to Clayton as the Bachelor
Bachelor Nation fan favorite Rodney Mathews is spreading the love!
The “Bachelorette” star stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast after Michelle Young’s finale to discuss her and Nayte’s relationship, Clayton being chosen as the Bachelor, and more.
As far as where he and Michelle stand, Rodney said he couldn’t be happier for her and that they are still in touch because of his close friendship with her fiancé Nayte.
Rodney said, “I’ve talked to Michelle a couple times one on one and Nayte and I talk to every day. We’ll also have FaceTimes with all three of us. The first conversation I had with Michelle was after the ‘Men Tell All.’ We had a moment where we were able to share our thoughts on the relationship, the journey, and everything else. We pulled each other off to the side and had a hug and did our handshake.”
The Bachelor Nation star continued on, saying, “For her to tell me straight up that she was so grateful I was there tonight and just seeing me made her more comfortable because of the bond we share. I was so grateful, that’s us right there. At first, I had a lot of hopes and I was excited to fall in love, but towards the end of my time there, I had a feeling I wasn’t the one for her. I mentally prepared myself for that because Nayte was my roommate and hearing about his connection with her, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not at that level with her.’”

And Rodney shared that Michelle also thanked him for his strong friendship with Nayte and for always being there for her fiancé.
He explained, “She told me that she was grateful for my relationship with Nayte and how I uplift and support him as a friend. There’s no hate or malice; it’s all about love and support. She knows how I feel about them two and she knows I’ll always be team Michelle and support her. Us final four cared so deeply for Michelle’s happiness, whoever she chose I knew she was going to be happy, so that’s all I cared about. I’m grateful we still get to be in each other’s lives.”
We love to see it!
And while some fans were hoping to see Rodney as the next Bachelor, he said he couldn’t be happier for his friend Clayton, whose season premieres on January 3.
Rodney said, “Clayton is my boy. I have nothing but love and support for him. We’re all really excited to watch his season and see how it plays out. I felt bad he had to read those mean tweets — those were brutal — but knowing him, he’s such a good sport. He’s ready for this moment.”

He shared that there is absolutely no bad blood between them, saying, “Him and I have already had discussions making sure we’re good and definitely friends for life. We talked about the promo poster and we’re good. A lot of people thought it was like me versus Clayton because of the ‘underdog’ thing, but that’s not the case at all. We’re really good friends and I am definitely here to support him. I’m really happy for him.”
