‘The Bachelor’s’ Gabby Opens Up About Being an ICU Nurse Throughout the Pandemic
Fans are getting to know Gabby on Clayton’s season of “The Bachelor” and watching their love story unfold.
But outside her time on “The Bachelor,” Gabby has not one but two extremely impressive careers.
She’s an ICU nurse who’s worked through the pandemic, and when she’s not at the hospital, Gabby is an NFL cheerleader.
The Bachelor Nation star stopped by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where she discussed both of her jobs and revealed what it’s been like working as an ICU nurse throughout COVID-19.
She candidly told co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo, “It’s been hard. I feel like it’s a lot of responsibility even being asked this question knowing that I’m speaking on behalf of a lot of health care workers. I started when I was 22, and as an ICU nurse, you’re around a lot of death and dying and you learn quickly how to have these important conversations that you don’t normally have. It’s already hard as a health care worker, in our country especially, as ICU nurses because death and dying are often in the forefront. But then COVID exacerbated that.”
Gabby continued on, saying despite how difficult the past two years have been, she’s thankful she has been able to help.
She explained, “I’m grateful to have a skill that is much needed during the pandemic. Everybody wants to help, and this is my career. I’m not on a platform saying I’m a hero or anything. I’m a nurse and I’ve always loved being a nurse. I’m grateful to have given back.”
And Gabby received some major recognition for her work as an ICU nurse at her other job as an NFL cheerleader. She received the Pop Warner Humanitarian Award through the NFL.

This award is typically given to one of the football players and is awarded to an individual who sets a positive example for the youth through the philanthropic work they’ve accomplished in their community.
Mike and Bryan asked Gabby about receiving this award and she said, “It was a huge honor. I had no idea that I was even eligible or that Pop Warner was debating giving it to a woman or a cheerleader. I feel incredibly grateful.”
The Bachelor Nation star added, “I love the idea that I can have a science-based career and do what I love while also being a cheerleader. I can make a difference in both worlds, though it’s not just me, it’s all a group effort. It feels really great to be honored. It feels undeserving for sure, but to just be recognized is huge. I wished that all health care workers during this pandemic feel like they’re being recognized. They are really making a difference.”
The award is not undeserved at all! Gabby totally deserves the recognition. We thank her and all other health care workers for the incredible work they’ve been doing and continue to do.
