‘The Bachelor’s’ Sierra Opens Up About Her Upbringing and How It Helped Shape Who She Is Today
Bachelor Nation fans are getting to know Sierra on Clayton’s season of “The Bachelor.”
But outside of all the love, romance, and drama, there’s still so much to learn about Sierra and her life before the show.
She stopped by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where she opened up about her childhood and how the more challenging times shaped who she is today.
Sierra shared with co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo that “I grew up going from home to home to home, living in a trailer park, and being around drugs and alcohol. It made me realize I didn’t want to become that.”
The Bachelor Nation star continued on, saying, “When my mother and my stepfather finally got custody of me and my sisters, I was 10. But I was so used to raising myself and doing my own laundry and getting food from the Salvation Army that when I was finally in a home with rules, I didn’t understand. I was so angry because I had been taking care of myself, so I was like, ‘How could you tell me what to do now?’”

Sierra got emotional during the conversation when discussing the moment she finally learned to adjust and accept the love and care from her parents.
She shared, “I had to learn how to adjust, and when I could finally adjust, I was in high school. My stepdad kept telling me every day that I was ‘somebody,’ and that was a huge part of helping me develop and know my worth. Before that, I was just going through the motions, and even now it chokes me up, because despite all the things I went through, nothing could break me. I am very strong, hardworking, smart, and I am ‘somebody.’”
Sierra shared that she worked really hard through school and college because when she looked back at the more difficult times in her life, she wanted to make sure she never felt that instability again.
